Heroin

My girlfriends older brother recently died over a Heroin over-dose. Once you're addicted to that poo, there's no turning back.

Crazy eyes, red eyes.

Always looking for money asking for money, lying.

To this day I struggle to understand how anyone looks at a needle, spoon, lighter, heroin and decides to inject themselves with it.

Just can't quite figure out that first time.

That said, once it's in them, there are very few who can turn it around.

Anyone have experiences with friends who have tried this stuff, and get themselves into trouble? How did you know they were on the stuff? Maybe some not-so-obvious signs?

If he's shooting look for marks or bruising near veins. Inside of arms, wrists or ankles even.

Does he wear long sleeves in the middle of summer or when it hot? Has he stopped bathing or washing his hair? Wears the same stuff everyday? Seems withdrawn, in his own world. Sleepy.

If smoking look for little things like small tubes the size of writing pens. Small pieces of tin foil in odd places. Look thru his trash. Why would there be tin foil in any other place but the kitchen.

I was addicted for almost one year. I was 16 when it started. My first high came from a needle, later I smoked it. While I was addicted, it didn't mean I could get it more than once a week, sometimes only twice a month. I never stole money but I was young and was always given money. I got to the point where I found myself waiting to get high, I'd patientley wait three days straight just thinking about nothing but getting numbed up. Never cared about pain pills, they weren't the same to me.

You can tell addicts because they will ask for money, are emotional, take things, overexxaggerate, and are manipulative. Red/yellow/dowsy eyes, slow movements, smooth walking and god awful reaction time. Easiest way to tell is seeing withdraw symtons as their high wears off. Emotional, sick, barley able to move.

I would do it all again because that is what inspired me to figure myself out and educate myself. I am a smarter person now, but my friend was not so lucky, he was addicted for much longer and his body cannot function without it. I would have never quit either, but out of sight out of mind, dealer moved.

I can't imagine people who have access everyday with that kind of urge, its easy to see why many die.

My sister was dating a guy who was supposedly clean and sober from it... I told her it was bad news. I don't intend to judge anyone or write someone off without even knowing them, but it is human nature, especially when it comes to people you love. I told her it was best to move on and find someone else because in my experience, most, if not all, who get on it never completely shake it (but there are always exceptions). She didn't listen. He was a really cool dude, but very erratic and not dependable at all. He always seemed really excited/jumpy/anxious (although that could've been the coffee).

They ended up arguing because despite only dating, he guilt tripped her for making all of her money and not 'helping him out' when she had it. She gave him money, they slowly grew further apart... He wouldn't call her for days at a time, stuff like that. He ended up disappearing for weeks and no one knew where he was. He showed back up but everyone kind of realized he was back on the stuff at that point.

She told me one time that she went to the bathroom when she was over at his house one night and found aluminum foil in the tub on a plate. I was like "what did you think he was doing? finishing his turkey leg while dropping a deuce?"

Again, he was a cool dude, but apparently he just couldn't shake it.
