Looking For A New Bank

BofA bitches. They have ATMs almost everywhere I travel and their online banking tools are fantastic. Viva la Big Corporations!

I can walk into any credit union and withdraw money at no charge. Also use their atm at no charge. Boa doesn't have a branch in Hawaii btw.

Fomer bofa employee. Bofa online kill everyone. But for savings just find a credit union with super low to zero fees.

What did you think about the harvesting software scam?

and what are ATM fees? Haven't paid one of those in the 4 years I've been with charlotte metro

don't know all the details of the scam. i know bofa is on lots of hackers radar as much for spite then trying to get anything.

when i say fees i don't mean atm. those are easy to avoid. im talking more about oddball fees for doing basic stuff that should NOT cost anything.

credit unions are a great way to go.

I've been with SECU for years. I had a BB&T account once. They process debits before credits after a weekend, no matter what order they are actually done in. After getting 350bucks worth of overdraft fees that shouldn't have happened, I closed that account

For the most part, credit union's are inconvenient. Credit Unions don't have atm fees but if I used one, I would spend more in gas driving to the ATM than the fee would cost me. Wells has 5 ATM's between my office and home, including one within a mile of my house.

While not your typical Credit Union, most governmental unions, such as SECU, LGFCU, etc, do not have any transaction fees no matter the ATM used. Now if that ATM, itself, charges a fee for non-member use then you have to pay, but your credit union doesn't.

For instance, I am able to use Bank of America ATM that's right around the corner from my house to withdraw money from my SECU account, for no additional charge.

But BOA charges you a fee, right?

There is one credit union atm between my house and my job, but its just a lot easier to use Wells.

Fwiw, I have an account with a credit union and with the bank.

Credit Union had some great auto loan rates, so we got a car loan there and opened a savings account with them at the same time. Its easier for me to save money with them because they are inconvenient. :)

Not at that ATM. That was my point. If that specific ATM doesn't charge you a fee then you don't charged. SECU and most credit unions have no ATM charges no matter what. So any ATM that doesn't have a nonmember transaction charge is fair game.

This is in contrast to say BOA that charges you for NOT using their ATM's. For instance, if you were a BOA customer and used a Cashpoints (these are technically SECU ATM's) which has no built in transaction fee, BOA still charges you a transaction fee because they are greedy bastards.
