Bill Polian on Who Has a High Ceiling. RG3 or Cam

Recommended Posts

"RG3 by a pretty significant margin."

I just think it's funny how all of the sudden people in the media think Cam sucks. Obviously the don't watch what is going on in Carolina. The play calls are flat out stupid and and his receiver are playing like crap. Everyone was all over Cam's nuts last year and saying he is the greatest rookie ever and he broke all of the records and now all of the sudden he doesn't know how to be an NFL QB. His body is built to last in the NFL a lot longer than RG3. RG3 has already been banged up with injuries this year, and Cam hasn't suffered an injury yet. In my opinion Cam has an all around better skill set but nobody will notice until we start winning. I'm just so fuging tired of people bashing Cam. His season this year is not that far off from what he was doing last year. His coaches and players around him are sucking. Yes he has made some crucial mistakes but if it wasn't for him we'd be blown out by a lot every game. I'll give it 2-3 seasons before the media is back on his nuts calling him one of the best of all time. We'll see what RG3 is doing by then.

I also think it's hilarious. Sam Bradford is STILL struggling in St. Louis and yet they still think he has the potential to be Tom Brady and they will NOT blame him for his poor performance. Not only is playing poorly, but he's getting paid 17 million a fuging year!

Yet another aspect of the Cam effect. QBs get the accolades when you win. They get the blame if you lose. Why is Cam different?

I truly believe that if Chud ever gets his head out of his ass we can be competitive. That has hampered Cam more than anything. Some folks see it and allow for it. Others just hate Cam and use it as another nail in his coffin.

Get Cam an OC with smarts and all is well.

It's par for the course.

As an aside, I am re-watching the Dallas game right now. In the first half, Cam made 2 bad throws. The first was the interception in the end zone when his arm was hit (no, not absolving him of blame) and the second was the throw to Stew in the end zone that just missed, but was followed up by a TD pass to LaFell (who, by the way, was Cam's 3rd read on the play). Every other throw he made was right on the money. On one, Smith slipped. There were a couple of drops. But overall, he played very well with excellent accuracy.

I only point this out now because we all suffer from selective memory. A few plays stick out here and there and it turns into a bad day. There is still a lot to be encouraged about regarding the potential of this offense once Chud either gets wise or gets fired.

They can have RG3, I'll stick with my guy.

Was going to post the same thing but with all the crap flying around this place figured no one would read it.

It is hillarious that besides yards Cams stats are almost the same as last year yet our offense as a whole is playing much worse. Now stats don't matter because he is not a rookie and we still are not winning. It is also crazy to think that experts have actually written that Cam is the reason Hurney was fired. On top of all of that people on this forum are going bat sh... crazy, It's like they are bi polar or something. I mean damn look at the first page of the huddle. It is honestly embarrasing. Yeah losing sucks but damn, some of the things people have been saying are just baffling.

As for RGIII I understand the media craze because the same thing happened with Cam last year. It just is different because it seems no one has any issues with RGIII except maybe injury concerns. Cam after everything he did was still hated by many and still is getting torn apart by the media. I don't think I have ever seen anything like it in sports.

The funny thing is RGIII and the Skins have the same record right now as they had last year, 3-4. Rex Grossman was their fugging QB. When they were 2-0 to start the season I remeber Steve Young saying he could see Rex being a top 10 QB by years end. Look how that turned out. But guess what, I have not heard the media mention once that their records are the same.

Cam got bashed for not winning, so why are the same standards not being held to RGIII and even Luck?

Bill Polian needs to take several seats back he was SVP show yesterday talking about how Cam's rookie season was a fluke and not a success. Overall the Panthers didn't have a successful season considering they had a losing record but you can't denie what Cam did at the quarterback position. Polian went on to say that Cam is have the same season he had last year but now he has to play quarterback. Is he serious? Because he can run hes not a quarterback? At the end of the day Cam has the potential to go down as one of the greatest qb to play at his position.

Cam's a franchise quarterback. He needs play selection that gets the ball out of his hands quicker. His offensive line has left him pressured all to often. His gift to scramble has been hurt this year as the defensive lineman have learned he can run and come off their blocks quicker to collapse his running lanes. Until he can get his quick passes out, it hurts every aspect of Chud's offense.

Heard one of the commentators weeks ago talk about the old "3 Alligator" rule. Go back, look at the film, he's got the ball way to long. Why they don't use our tight ends or wide receivers to create confusion off the line to spring short passes, I don't get it.

The defense has stepped up this year, now the offense has to keep the D off the field.

Jerry, Schottenheimer lives here, there is your coaching consultant. Enough of this indecisive mamby pamby BS. The team is like any other business. The NFL has gotten so incestuous, they think the only minds are the one's in the game. The culture top down has to change. He got rid of the nepotism, he now jettisoned his buddy Marty, he needs to find a replacement NOW.

A lot of people in the media called for Cam to fail right out of the gate of course their going to try to bring him down every chance they get. Although I'm not a The Golden Calf of Bristol fan you have to admit he's gotten a lot of unfair criticism in the same way. Once people say you will fail they will take anything they can and blow it up. Proof that this is a team game: Cam Newton has a higher passer rating than J Cutler but Cam is 1-5 and Cutler is 5-1. As for rg3 no doubt he's great I'm not taking that away from him at all but Alfred Morris has been a top ten back this year(I know he's on my fantasy team). They use the run to set up the play action and they use a lot of quick throws to get the ball out of rg3s hands. Again not taking anything away from him but I've seen numerous plays this year where he throws the ball 2-3 yards and the reviever runs 50 yards for a td

    • They can’t reasonably fire a rookie head coach who was saddled with one of the worst first overall QBs of all time. And at times made said QB look decent to serviceable.  If the team was 3-11 at this point next season, fire everyone.

    • Weird things also happen when you include garbage time games in your averages. Chicago and Washington he came in with like 2 min left.  The remaining 9 games which he started, 1,737 yards, 193 yards/game. Still low but let’s all be clear the number reported isn’t correct.
