Panthers Claim CB James Dockery off Waivers

All I know is he was an udfa last year on the browns. Yay.

Our CB this season consists of: a former 7th round midget, a bullethead 5th(?) claimed from the cowboys last year, a 5th round rookie, and an UDFA browns outcast.

That inspires confidence!

I think you left out the UDFA from Seattle we picked up earlier (Parker).

That being said, I'm confident in he top 3 for the most part.

To be fair, I'm not sure there is much to pick from in the middle of the season.

Very very true. I still can't believe this is what it's come down to. Hurney was fired for a myriad of reasons, but this is such a great example. After Gamble, there is no one that would be a starter on any other team in this league. We just ignored CB in FA all together. I'm not advocating breaking the bank for a finnegan, but Jesus there were some 2nd tier guys available.

There will be the mistakes we can expect from a ragtag group of corners, but for the most part you're right. I would say I'm confident in them as much as they can "get by". Norman is developing quite well and Bullethead looked decent at times out there vs the 'boys. Cap should stay in slot.

How could I leave out THE Bob Parker?!

2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

James Dockery, CB, Oregon State

James Dockery had a slow start to his collegiate career at Oregon State. The 6-1 cornerback was highly regarded coming out of high school and was expected to make a pretty big splash in the Beaver secondary sooner rather than later. However, he had to bide his time and wait behind some pretty talented players. After redshirting in 2006, Dockery saw limited action in 2007. The following season was supposed to be when Dockery stepped into a starting role, but an injury sidelined him for the entire year.

Dockery finally got his chance in 2009 and he made the most of it. Dockery was the lone player in the secondary that started all 13 games. Dockery started to show that he could be the strong corner that everybody expected him to be. The 2010 season went even better for Dockery. Again Dockery started every game and this time he tallied 56 tackles and four interceptions. Dockery had a knack for making big plays in 2010 as two of his four interceptions clinched victories for OSU late in the game.

Dockery is relatively quick and has decent instincts, but his measurables will not blow away any NFL teams. Oregon State's inconsistent and disappointing 2010 season has not helped Dockery's draft stock either and he is likely a late round selection at this point.

Crazy thought, I know, but let's actually see him play for our team before passing judgment on the guy. Keep in mind that Bell was an UDFA too. Might be a decent pickup for us... not holding my breath by any means, considering when we've claimed him, but personally, I won't hold his draft placement or where he's from against him. I'll let his play dictate my decision, provided he even gets to see the field this season.
