Cigars

There are probably 5 people on Earth who could distinguish a Cuban cigar from a Dominican or Honduran of the same quality. You smoke Cubans to tell other people that you're smoking a Cuban.

Most cigar smokers can distinguish between a Cuban cigar and something from another island. Just make sure you are actually smoking a Cuban cigar. Most people who are not in the know pick up fake Cubans when they are on cruises. If the cigar came in a glass top box or they bought a Cohiba for less than $7 a stick, it's probably a fake.

I prefer Nicaraguan sticks myself. They are usually strong, powerful smokes that I wouldn't recommend to a guy that is new to the cigar world.

If you're new to cigars, start out with any type of Fuente, any Rocky Patel, joya de Nicaraugua, or even Montecristo. Stay away from Gurkhas, Acids, or any cheap bundle smokes for right now until you know what to look for. And remember never, NEVER, never order cigars from Thompson, the online cigar company. They will call you, spam your e-mail, and constantly send you junk mail forever.

Check out this forum for an introduction to cigars:

Cigarasylum.com

The place has a wealth of knowledge from guys who have been smoking for years. They're all pretty good guys over there (no snobs) as long as you read more, post less, and don't start up a bunch of ignorant threads (like many do here in the Panthers section). I've been a part of that forum for over four years now.

Also, if you're going to get into the hobby, you're gonna need a humidor to keep those cigars fresh. Order something bigger than what you think you're going to need.

You can also check out cigars by buying sampler packs from reputable places like cigarsinternational.com. Hit up JRs on I-95 in Smithfield or on I-40 in Statesville. They normally have good people who can help you pick something out that you'll like.
