Update on cap situation new GM will inherit.

I haven't put a lot of thought into the cap situation for whomever is coming in as the next GM, but this article is on point and it's completely right - we will be undergoing a serious overhaul this offseason.

Common sense says once a new GM takes over, he will want to bring in his "own guys." It's only natural. But, NOW consider that Hurney was a cap-inclined GM and the next guy will be a football-inclined GM, and there are going to be some serious roster implications. SERIOUS, MAJOR implications.

In considering that, I've always been a DWill fan, but in all honesty, and this is the first time I've said this, we may need to just go ahead and trade him before the deadline. I'll always be a fan of him as a player, but I think it's best for him considering the current staff is moving in a different direction, and regardless, the next GM and coaching staff likely isn't going to see any reason to justify paying him the amount of money he is owed to be one of four running options. Let him help another team that could use him this season and get something in return while you can. Otherwise, I think the next GM is just going to come in this offseason an make him one of many cap casualties.

Keep Cam, Stew, Tolbert, Olsen, and Kalil on offense. CJ, Kuechly, Gamble, and Godfrey on defense. Get rid of everyone else if so and build the offense and defense around those guys.

...everything is so up in the air until we get a GM. A GM will want his own coach. a new coach will want his own QB...so noone will be safe, not even Cam.... looks like we will have the number one pick again so we're at least guarenteed to get one new good player...thats about it.

All this bad cap situation has been going on for years.

And paying good (NOT GREAT) players these unreal million dollar contracts that are normally reserved for players such as Ray Lewis and Brian Urlacher, who actually make a difference on their team, has been Hurneys signature, and is also the reason this team as been so awful.

This is the exact reason Hurney should have been gone years ago. And the only way to fix this mess is to hire someone who knows what there doing. I hope the next GM Richardson hires will be a genious for drafting great players and is a wiz with the salary cap.

And to think some of you could care less if the next GM has a firm finance background.

Put it this way: I'd rather have a football guy who needs help with the financial aspects than a financial guy who needs help with the football aspects.

Whomever we get, there should be someone in place to help with the flipside of the job.

I remember a Huddle just a couple of years ago where doing research or finding an article of this nature would have netted the OP at least 20 pieces of "delicious" pie... That's what the huddle is here for. Instead, you get 2 pieces of not "delicious" pie for posts like these, but you get 10 for a good one liner... The Huddle much like our team has embraced a loser's mentality.

Sure, Pie really doesn't matter... Or it's just the interwebs... But I think we all like to get pie, as it kind of validates the things we say, as in people agree with us on things we say. It'd be nice to get back to the old huddle... And from what I understand... Before I got here it was even better.

Sorry if this post derails this thread, I really am... But if this post changes a few mentalities around here then perhaps it was worth it. Don't pie me for this post either... Instead give it to the guy that started this thread... We all knew the Cap was fugged... He just basically broke it down all in one spot... Sadly for all of us, it looks like this team may get a lot worse before it gets better. So much for high expectations coming into the season huh?

I feel you man. I have followed this board for years and just recently joined. I felt like now it lacks those type of posters. Many of the guys with longevity are dismissive in their posts and do not engage in debate. This is like some sort of amateur comedy show. That is why you see a billion views and no posts. People are not trying to deal with that mularkey.

#89 will more than likely be gone. Any and everybody thats a vet or Fox guy needs to go. Turn this into Cams team. Cam cant talk to 30 year old vets the way we need him to, and fans dont even hold those guys accountable anymore thanks to the national spotlight on our QB. Clean house, get new faces and fan faves in here.

You've been a member here 5 whole months longer than myself... You have over 4 times as many posts as I do...

Don't play that high and mighty card with me brother... This isn't about getting in pissing matches. It's about every one of us being better than we are currently.

As much as this breaks my heart, I agree

Fox and Hurney left much more than just themselves on this team
