This reminds me of a discussion I saw on NFLN yesterday with Heath Evans and another ex-player. The question was his maturity level and both agreed he was immature.

So who did they use as examples for him to emmulate? Brees, Brady and Peyton.

Why do people expect him to be a finished product after a year-and-a-half in the league?

lol...maturity is in the eye of the beholder...Cam goes off in the sideline like Brady does so often and it would NOT be viewed positively.

But it is still funny Cam gets compared to current day vet SB winners....and not vs what they were 22 games into their careers.

I don't think Cam's leadership is our biggest issue, but I do agree with the sentiment.

I am in no way trying to say Cam shouldn't be here yadda yadda but to be fair, RG3 in particular has handled the press quite well in wins and losses this season. Buts that's irrelevant.

The bigger issue though isn't that Cam doesn't have the will or fire whatever people want to call it because he does. Its obvious with how effected he is by losing. He has a passion for the game and is not some bs player like Jamarcus or whoever people are trying to claim he is.

He just needs some damn direction and a team around him that he can identify with and establish a unique repertoire with. Its utter bullsh*t how our coaches have gone about his development so far. Of course we can't see behind the scenes but they are stunting his growth through their gameplans and letting him after every game be thrown to the wolves of reporters and he comes out as the only one willing to constantly represent this franchise beyond in-game performance. For how "immature" people think he is, this 22 year old is trying to fill a leader role on a directionless from a coaching, planning, and management standpoint. I just hope this year does not kill his career.

You know what I'd like to see? Maybe one of the other high profile teammates do a joint press conference. Maybe start having Luke & Cam do pressers together a la Lebron and Dwight. I mean why not at this point. I dunno

Cam's struggles with leadership seem in a lot of ways to be abou thim just being a nice guy. How many times has he been humble about letting give like Smittly, kalil, gross etc set the tone as the veterans.

I think he just isn't comfortable, or the team is asking him not to basically tell the vets to STFU and get on board.

I agree completely. Delhomme lacked 99% of the natural athletic ability Cam has, but he was always a fiery positive influence on the team. The team rallied around Jake and everyone was better because of his leadership. With Cam, everyone is worse. Granted Cam is still very young, but he comes across as a childish, self-centered baby. I'd take Delhomme at his best 7 days out of 7 compared to Cam.

RG3 seems to have a good personality, leadership-wise, as does Luck. But I want to see how these guys react when they are faced with adversity, and when every word out of the media's mouth is questioning both their abilities and their mental states. That is tough for any young person.

I'm not trying to equate Cam with anyone else. Everyone is unique. In my eyes though, all these guys (Cam, RG3, Luck) have the raw material to be effective leaders. Just remember that leadership is something that must be molded and shaped over time. We don't come out of the oven ready to go.

Should be noted....there were various stages of Delhomme's leadership. The guy we saw emerge late 2003 and lead this team over the next couple seasons wasn't the same leader that walked out the door.

That on field leadership we love and covet isn't always a constant in a player. It can emerge and it can fade.

People have followed Cam before.....a gutted roster could work wonders. We brought in a new coach but we have and had a lot of "old" in this so called new era post Fox.

I know I will catch hell but that hasn't stopped me before....I think the Smitty era needs to end as well. He did great things but we need a new beginning and represents a lot of things....good and bad. Soon he will be more attitude than player....

I have got news for you.

The coach makes the team and what he does or does not get out of his players...period.

You take Tom Brady away from Bellinchek and that system, not is good.

Montana away from Bill walsh, not as good.

Unitas, Bradshaw all the rest.

There a few exceptions but not many.

Righ head coach + the right QB to lead his schemes and right D captain to lead the defense = Wins.

I'm really sick of these 'if Cam this and if Cam that'. The reality is the only person's opinion that matters right now about Cam is the person writing the checks. Why waste energy on this.

Delhomme was a good leader and I loved his passion on the field. But Cam's leadership isn't making the o-line block like crap nor is it calling the read option every play.
