Lions and Panthers

Very similar

Big expectations --underperforming

1st pick of QB in draft -- does not look like such a deal any longer

Big name WR -- thrown to in too many situations

Running game -- does not materialize

Defense -- would make no news but for injuries

Both coaches - thought to be good hires their first season

The Lions are 4th in total offense, sencond in passing offense.

They are also 8th in total defense.

How are they similar outside of having a disappointing record compared to expectations?

Was wondering the same. They are moving the ball but Stafford is just not getting them into the endzone this year.

To be fair to #89, while most people here thinks he gets too many targets, I disagree and think he should be getting more than what he is getting so far.

Calvin Johnson has 38 receptions on 66 targets (8th in the league)

Steve Smith has 28 receptions on 47 targets (37th in the league)

Calvin is 5th in receiving yard (592) while Smith is 14th (471).

Chud (and Cam) needs to target Smith more often.

The only two receivers who get less targets than Smith in the top 20 in yards is Decker and Thomas and that is because they take targets away from each other.

Throw #89 the damn ball.

Our possession time is literally 1 second away from being the worst in the league (baltimore). Smith is obviously going to get fewer targets when we run fewer offensive plays. A meaningful comparison must account for this.

    • Canales was brought in to fix Bryce. That was how he sold himself. He failed.  the panthers need a new qb, someone to coach him, and someone to build a defensive staff.  Canales has failed at developing a new qb. His big draft project XL is trending towards bust. His entire nfl resume before the panthers was one season as offensive coordinator on a stacked Bucs team, and being on the offensive staff when a 31 year old Geno smith finally put it all together. And he didn’t even pick his offensive coordinator. Assuming evero is gone, who’s he got in that phone to call? What low lvl porn addict evangelical from the bucs is ready to be Peter principled? There is nothing in his coaching history or his current performance that indicates he’s the person to move this team forward. Every other team knew this last cycle (panthers were only interview) and nothing has happened to change that perception   all people like you have is “well you can’t do it again it’s too soon but <random interval of time> will be different.  just pull off the bandage. There’s no reason to let this guy draft “his guy” except people wanting an excuse not to fire him after 2025.
    • Both Reich and Canales were saddled with trying to build and establish a viable scoring offense around Bryce Young. The best the offense looked this season and last season was with Andy Dalton who is also terrible but still better than Bryce Young. Which should be all anyone needs to know but still somehow there are weirdos here salivating over a ceiling of maybe on a really good day the 25th best QB in the league. We've already canned one entire staff over our first overall pick. You can fire everyone again to satisfy your need for vengeance and quickly come to the realization that your next hire will absolutely unequivocally be a downgrade yes man or you can blow up this QB room and then assess. If no progress next season then you can make changes and justifiably so.
    • Surprised this is the only post with this take.  This is like the Rhule kiss of death lol.
