Why does Rivera say we do not have the personal to run his scheme?

I agree about the impacts on Newton.

...but, I don't think its true its a tailored offense for Newton. This isn't about Newton. It is about not having the overall offensive blend to make the vertical scheme work at the moment. We do not have the personnel yet. We have run personnel with a scheme for vertical and that's why this is such a bloody mess.

Newton can throw vertically, he throws a beautiful long ball when he has time. He does need to learn to step into the pocket, he does need to learn the normal things a QB needs to learn in game 22 with a year of tape on him.

It is also about throwing away something as a base offense that should be an option.

That's not what I meant. Our playbook is overly catered to his abilities

I don't want the personel for the scheme they're trying to run and I don't think anyone should. The scheme is nuts and doesn't work in the NFL. Last year's did...somewhat.

They should have developed an offensive plan that maximizes the team's abilities and strengths not around 1 guy through gimmick looks and his former college style offense.

To my knowledge, I don't think a read option has ever been a base package for a team in the modern era and our staff is refusing to back off of it. They are doubling down it seems. I don't even think it should be a special type package. They can run out of the shotgun the bulk of the game if they want, that's great if it works, but enough with a poor man's Oregon in the NFC South.

he took a more active role in the offense last year than this year and the offense looks really different. there's only one thing missing from last year...shockey. on offense, shockey or another big strong and reliable TE is needed to run the 2TE system we ran last year. that doesn't account for chud limiting the offense to the read option stuff and doesn't make him shut down the run game, but if they are wanting to run the offense they ran last year, they don't have the personnel for it.

on defense...i don't know. he had an average group of guys in SD and got them to be the best defense in the league. maybe the problem is his DC calling and planning things differently than he would which is why it might be best for mcD to get the axe. but players...he's lacking in the secondary, esp. at safety (although godfrey did pretty well this past week) and i doubt that Dline is as stout as he would like.

maybe it's the lack of experience and maturity that he's lacking in personnel. this is a young team that is quite often getting caught with it's pants down and a lot of it is just dumb mistakes that more mature and experienced players wouldn't have made.

i'm just curious to see what he does.

Al y'all have failed miserably in this thread!!!!

His schem is a 3-4 DEFENSE... Nothing t do with offense

He has more talent on offense than he has ever had on any other team that he has ever coached.

just like his defense in chicago, right?

No but look at the personnel he had in Chicago compared to what he has here on defense?

Big difference right? I rest my case, he was referring to defense... He's a defensive coach.

But a HC right now and that involves both sides of the ball and controlling the crack addict we have at OC

The defense is actually doing fine right now for the most part. The d-line is still madly inconsistent but our rookies have looked like strong additions and hopefully they can further develop in this downward spiral of a season as a bright spot.

Ok, I'll play your silly games...

Explain to me exactly the "personnel" issues that we have on offense, that doesn't allow him to run his scheme...

Yeah... Shockey is gone... But we still have Hartsock, and Barnidge... Hartsock is an even better blocker than Shockey was

We have a group put together for a Fox style run offense that he & Chud are trying to implement an option read AS A BASE PACKAGE with that limits our stacked running back core, allows defensive lines to kill us, and furthermore has driven ourselves into a corner as an offense. Its not a game and a pretty obvious observation.
