So must of our runs last year weren't read options? Must have been watching the wrong Panthers. By virtue of what you are saying, you are saying the team implemented a completley new offense in this offseason which isnt even close to true.

Two weeks ago, I wanted to test my impressions of the difference in our offense year to year. So I charted two games, the one against Seattle this year, and the one against the Vikings last year. Why did I choose these two games? Both were home games against NFC out-of-division foes. Both were close losses. Both came at about the same point in the year.

Here were my results:

Against Minn

39 plays out of the shotgun (63%) vs 23 under center (37%)

3 read option runs vs 11 I-formation runs. Other runs were scrambles or other formations

Against Seattle

42 plays out of the shotgun (76%) vs 13 under center (24%)

11 read option runs vs 5 I-formation runs. Other runs were scrambles or other formations
