CJ Soundbite On Firing Hurney (MUST HEAR)

who is responsible for hiring coaching staff again? If you have shitty employees, the manager gets the blame.

Generally yes, but JR has final say on all of it. That's why I think firing Hurney today was both the wrong move for the present AND an empty gesture. Not to say Hurney didn't deserve blame. He did... But, he was only doing what JR wanted done for the most part, especially when it came to the coaching staff.

Coaching could improve but it doesn't excuse the poor talent level on the team. Firing Rivera this soon would be brutal. Firing Hurney now and Rivera after the season seems like a reasonable move.

Maybe, but I don't see it that way when the players have already came out and openly criticized him. He's lost them. It's pointless to let him finish out the season now. He's lost us too many games to count.

WOW.

Poo just hit the fan. Not only did most of the informed fans here know Rivera was the wrong guy (such as myself), well, now the players have come out and said he is the wrong guy. And now at 1-5, we're stuck with Rivera and his staff with it clear that our guys don't want to play for him.

This is the most un-JR day in Panthers history, lol.

I don't care what anyone says, I love CJ, and I'm glad he said this. Cam too. That's two players in two consecutive days that have called out the coaching staff, yet people continue to pile on Cam. Combine that with what Bully posted last week and I think some people around here need to reevaluate their outlook on things.

I have to say, I'm very pleasantly surprised about the Hurney firing. I may have underrates JR's willingness to make changes somewhat. I don't think I was being totally unfair to JR because we've still had only playoff season since 2005. I think he should have let Hurney go after we basically dismantled the old team after 2009. But JR surprised me today. In a good way, for once.

The tough life of a NFL GM.. getting blamed for your rich owners mistakes. The problem for me is that he just blatantly sucked at his job. Coaching staff aside, he has been fuging awful at drafting players, making trades, and bringing in any value in free agency. The only move he has ever made that I liked was trading for Greg Olsen. That was probably Chud forcing that one anyways.

Merrill hoge made a similar comment... was talking about the 4th and 1 call, said the GM doesn't control the play calling...

In response to the Hoge quote, it's true that GMs don't control the playcalling. But there are other things that Hurney was responsible for, and he wasn't getting the job done on those things.
