Guys....My screen name is the night the Carolinas was awarded the franchise. I remember watching from work that night and remember JR saying that he didn't "get into this to lose". Sure , he's a businessman, he cares about the bottom line. It's just hard to belive that he is so dense as to not understand that the fans deserve better.

This is what fans are failing to get. JR threw our whole existence has changed the ways he approached day to day operations. Its clear that this plan is not working so expect change to come. Might not be the right change but there will be some.

32 minutes to read this thread. Plus watching Friday the 13th part four. So I'll call it a wash. Not the best half hour I ever spent. But no where near the worst.

IMO, I think JR is a terrific person and businessman. As a team owner, I think he tries to keep those two aspects in play. Unforunately, for us fans anywho, it does not seem to work out very well doing it that way. He needs to let his football team be a business, and run it properly. Get his personal life and feelings out of the football arena.

Or, I could be wrong. And he does keep his private life out of the football decisions. I just don't see it being that way at the present time.

He is willing to make changes, just doesn't like to make hasty ones. Some have worked, some have not. And sometimes they don't come at all. I don't think he is a bad owner. I just happen to believe he wants to be good at football, and with the people around him. And the football side can come out on the short end.

Ah hell, nevermind.

if it wasn't a coordinator that didn't suck and wasn't on the way out the door anyway, i'd be worried. but it wasn't.

i'd like some context for that heated discussion, but i know that smitty had plenty of reasons to be upset at davidson over the past couple years he was here. first, smitty was getting set up to get killed by the throws coming to him and the offense, esp. where he lined up was so predictable that it had become completely ineffective.

Ahh, the infamous, telegraphed WR quick hit. Brings back memories...

I'm not going to jump to conclusions so far since this is really a "gist", but the gist of the gist that I got out of this is that Richardson would've fired Davidson if he mouthed off to Smith one more time, but he didn't want to fire him all those years for being a terrible coordinator?

true. he's never had any problem getting deals done with rosenhaus. that might not be a good thing for the club.

if hurney is going to stay with the team (which i have a feeling might be the case) then i'd rather it be limited to just that one aspect rather than making personnel decisions. as weak as he may be at handling the cap...i think that's his strong point.

it would be better to start fresh, tho. should have happened when fox left. i just knew that if one of those two were going to stay, i would rather have had it be hurney staying.

We're on the same page here.

"Promote" Hurney to a figurehead job and bring in a real "football guy" to handle the personnel.

No real confidence that it'll happen, but it might be the best case realistic scenario at this point.

I would not be upset about this.

Similar to bringing in a consultant to work on the new GM search I don't think it will happen but it would not upset me.

There has been a precipitous decline in Richardson the last four years or so. He used to be sharp as a tack. He picked your brain for opinions and could tell right away what was gold and what was crap. But he understood the value of coming to you and making you feel like you mattered. That fostered loyalty within the organization from the bottom up. As Zod has said on here before, he was country smart. And that's why the other owners in the League put him in charge of the very public labor battle.

That being said, he used to hate Al Davis. Now he is rapidly becoming Al Davis. Doesn't this Smitty/Davidson flap sound like one of the many stories about Davis and the Raiders franchise the last few years he was around? And the way he acted in that press conference a few year ago and his comments during the labor negotiations show a man who no longer is aware of everything.

The man is human. He went through hell with his heart problem. It's just unfortunate that there is no one to keep him in check now that he's in need of that person more than ever.

Sad to hear.
