The reason why the Panthers are not good and have not been for 4 years.

I believe it is because the receivers are terrible. Steve Smith is more of a Wes Welker kind of a player that can wreak havoc if used properly. He is not being used properly at all this year. If you interchanged Welker and Smith the results would be off the charts for Smith. Look at Atlanta, suddenly they have a great passing attack now that they have two great receivers. When Carolina went to the Super Bowl they had Muhammad at an all-pro level and Smith was breaking out. Carolina needs to invest some high draft picks or free agent dollars in the position. Running backs are a dime a dozen. The offensive line makes a running back, not vice versa. Green Bay has got it right.

GM Marty Hurney respectfully disagrees and don't get him started on the relative insignificance of the FS and SS positions either.

    • 100%. But there are a lot of goofs in here that have so invested their entire supposed fandom on Bryce being trash that you can't even have a discourse with them. I'm glad there are still normies in this fanbase
    • I asked him for the last 5 weeks.
    • It matters because we're still not done paying for him and we've spent a ridiculous amount of resources to build around him. Granted, the FO hasn't been good at making picks, but what we've spent on offense while ignoring defense isn't sustainable. At some point Bryce has to be able to elevate the guys around him and work with what he's got.  I've made it no secret, I don't think he's a future franchise QB that takes this team to the SB. I think he gets you right on the cusp of playoff team, and maybe a weak division win or a WC, but serious deep runs aren't going to happen. I see him as the king of perpetual mediocrity. And in a couple of years we have to decide if we pay him like a franchise guy. We've paid lots of guys based on potential and it hasn't worked out well for us  We'll see if he has "it" and can lead the offense. But I think it's going to get interesting when we have to stop focusing on giving Bryce all the tools and put resources into the defense so that we don't have 3rd string and PS guys as our starters.  And as far as the Chiefs being 14-1, they've gotten more help from the refs this year than the Broncos in SB50.
