If Shock meant all that, then why not Winslow? Discussion

I read somewhere recently here about how the loss of Shockey has been a deceptively profound part in the team's/Cam's demise on offense. Now, I am not saying whether I believe this is true or not, but if it is true then it would seem like Winslow could feel that void in spades. In my opinion, we need to run decidedly more two TE sets, and if Barnidge is not the answer (which is arguable), then Winslow would actually provide another talented, receiving TE who would give Cam another viable target, and opposing defenses fits. Winslow left the Pats because he wanted to be a bigger part of the offense. He wanted to play. Why not play him?

I am not sure that he was cut by that many. I thought it was only the Seahawks that really cut him, and from what I read, that is because they thought that a younger, cheaper Evan Moore could fulfill their needs. By most accounts, the Seattle "experts" were shocked that Winslow was cut, especially considering his success during TC. The Pats cut him because Winslow requested to be cut because he wanted a bigger role in the offense. You know he wasn't going to get playing time behind Hernandez and Gronk and company.

Patriots released TE Kellen Winslow.

Winslow reportedly asked for the release. Less than a week after signing, the 29-year-old played (four snaps) behind Michael Hoomanawanui and Daniel Fells as the fourth tight end at Baltimore. The Boston Globe's "educated guess" is that Winslow's troublesome knee was in "a lot of pain" this week. That would come as no surprise after early-September reports that he failed a physical. Winslow could opt to take the rest of the season off and try for a comeback in 2013.

We already got a safety FA. To me, it makes more sense to draft a safety and pcik up a TE in FA. That being said, I don't see any better TE available. Shock obviously doesn't want to play for us (if at all anymore). And, waiting for the draft is not going to help us THIS YEAR. I realize some have given up on the year, but we still need to strive for development and improvement if nothing else. If Winslow doesn't (or won't) fiit, or is just a low-priced fill-in, then he can easily be released after the year.

A young, developing Graham-like TE would be great, but where is he? We got Barnidge, right...? Anyway, I say draft a safety first, then worry about a TE later, if it comes to that.

I get what you're saying, and I feel your pain, but we will adjust. We have to.

Kurb, Olsen is pretty good, and that's why I could easily see two-TE sets with Olsen and Winslow, much like Gronk and Hernandez.

According to SI.com's Peter King, "smart people" knew Kellen Winslow and Patriots coach Bill Belichick "would never be a fit."

King hears from a source that Belichick inquired about Winslow during the offseason only to be told by good friend Greg Schiano, in effect, "You do not want this guy." Winslow had previously said he "had to roll" out of Tampa because he didn't like Schiano's "toes on the line!" approach. It's no surprise that he lasted just a week with Belichick.Sep
