Ranking Panther Needs for 2013 Draft

i don't think the panthers will do any ranking of needs in the draft.

they'll have a group of positions that need help, but i doubt they rank them. instead they'll go BPA and select the BPA that fits one of their needs.

I don't think anyone is predicting how the FO is gonna go about the draft process. Just fan rankings of our needs

Primary Needs:

1) Safety

2) Defensive tackle

3) Wide-receiver

I wouldn't mind if we use our first two picks on any two of these three positions

Secondary Needs:

1)CB

2)OT

3)OG

The only thing I might be cautious with is WR, I think we need a true number one (I love LaFell but think he is destined to be a career number two)- and therefore wouldn't want to waste a low pick on another Pilares or Adams. We need to swing for the fences and draft the best available in my opinion, a similar argument could be made with safety.

Based on the perceived quality of talent in the draft, you address 2 of the following positions with quality free agents and 2 of them with our top draft picks. I haven't started looking at potential draft picks or free agents so I can't make any predictions.

1a- FS

1b- CB

1c- DT

1d- WR

By need:

FS

WR

CB

DT

OG

I agree with SOJA a few posts back that WR is pretty much an early or nothing proposition this year. We have zero speed at the WR1/2 position and a rotation at WR3 consisting of a bunch of mid-late round project guys. If there's a #1 type in the first round, grab him and try to address FS/CB in the second (depending on what we do in FA). Otherwise, ignore WR and focus on the secondary, DT and OG.

I can tell you right now without looking there will be poo as far as quality WRS on the free agent market. That is unless the Steelers can't came to an agreement with Mike Wallace....

There isn't a better year to take a WR in the first then the 2013 draft. Several #1 playmakers should be available at the position come draft time. I still think we need to address DT first (unless we can get someone via FA or trade that is a long-term solution)....

EDIT: Also forgot Bowe and Jennings, but I doubt any of them (Wallace, Bowe, Jennings) hits FA tbh. Most likely imo would be Jennings, just due to the surplus of talented WRS Green Bay has, as well as their ability to just plug people in to the position due to Aaron Rogers....

True. There are three guys I could see being the first WR taken--and are actually probably all legit no. 1 material, this year. Ironically, or luckily, this is a great year for S, DT, and corner.

so essentially this is a great year to go BPA.

I S

II LT

III DT

IIII WR

Right now, I believe we need more defensive help, mainly in the secondary. Offense would have to be that LT position mainly because Gross isn't getting any younger. His age is showing lately.

Defensive tackle again, I used to think this was a huge need. It is a need still. But Edwards, Dwan, has been such a great addition and he has some tread left too.

Finally WR, LaFell is showing he's a great #2-3. That's it. We need a legit #1. Smith needs to play that slot all day.
