Some Perspective Being Provided Today... Perhaps?

New York just blew out the Niners. The Raiders barely lost to Atlanta. Seattle just took the lead over the Patriots late in the game with a touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to Sidney Rice (IIRC).

This doesn't excuse our coaching staff from their blunders, but it does mean perhaps we aren't as bad as many of us, including myself, think at this point.

I've always said we have enough talent, but if we had adequate coaching it would push us over the top for wins any given Sunday. Today illustrated that there might still be some hope if we can get it together down the home stretch, but I won't allow myself to hold my breath for it, lol.

The difference between these teams and ours is they have the staff to push them over the hump.

We can't close games.

Yup, and it holds true year in and year out.

Look at our few successful years, especially 2003 versus 2001. Look at how many games we lost in 2001 in the 4th quarter or more specifically the last few minutes of the game.

Look at how many we won in 2003 in the 4th quarter. It's about mental toughness, will, and playing from the start to the stop of every game. That last part seems to be the biggest thing we lack since our last playoff year... We never play a complete game.

Fanthink rarely puts things in proper perspective.

The team is never as good as the homers believe, and never as bad as the negativists (who will all tell you they're realists) make it out to be.

Watching lots of non-Panther games can certainly help give you a more realistic basis for comparison.

i'm glad you clarified that.

very agreed with the thread. having a chance to step back and see a few "any given sundays" happen and look at the teams we are going to be facing the rest of the way...lots of teams have problems just like us. lots of frustration in those teams and many of them are on our schedule the rest of the year.

may not be playoffs, but i don't feel hopeless at all. we can pull of an 8 win season. still short of where i thought and hoped we'd be, but better than last year.

it all depends on how they come out of the bye week, imo. but even with that...as bad as the teams are we are facing the rest of the year we could still pull it off.
