hurney did find a decent balance in acquiring talent on offense the last couple years bringing in olsen, shockey, tolbert (even though he just threw himself at us) and murphy (even tho he's kind of meh....). he should have done brought in another WR, but ehhh...

on defense, tho, there hasn't been nearly the amount of work done to bring in good vets, esp. in the secondary. downright pathetic and feeble, tbh. soo many reasonably priced options passed over.

Asante is still old and would demand an inflated contract. Im good with the inaction on him... But since you brought that up..

When CB Jonathan Joseph was avail we should have overpaid for him...as he would be a young guy to fill a key need and create mismatch issues in the secondary. Gamble will drop off very soon and has never been elite on his best day but after Gamble it is definitely not elite..or good.

FS Dashon Goldson availible last two seasons for the Niners who resigned him late both seasons...probowler..need position...pass..

We roll the dice on guys who have limited abilities and production as if a good player would taint this team.

I agree here. However, Olsen didn't get recruited and signed as a FA he was traded for. I think Tolbert wanted to come here more than Hurney went after him (his family is in NC I think?). And Shocky was a special situation, I think he wanted to play against his former team to stick it to them.

wasn't saying or inferring that olsen was a FA.

said that tolbert threw himself at us.

shockey wasn't that special of a situation. available FA...team wanted to get the new QB a couple reliable targets, esp. at TE. picked up shockey.

i said more balanced approach, meaning didn't stick with his "plan" of building through the draft. he went outside his box to find what we needed.

he did pretty well, considering what we're used to seeing.

he just needs to do it more on defense. DT was a good start, but it's the bare minimum of what he needs to do.

What angers me more is the interview Hurney did just a couple weeks ago when asked by Tom Sorensen if Hurney is becoming doubtful about his hard line "no big name FA" stance and Hurney was defiant and said not at all and he is still 100% comitted building via the draft. Vincent Jackson is doing well also, it would have made much more sense to let Stewie walk and signed Vincent Jackson instead. Hurney is backward looking, has no vision.
