Will 1-5 seal the deal?

Doubtful anything changes. Richardson seems allergic to change, especially during the season. Besides, I don't recall Hurney ever being on the hot seat here. Not like an extra 4-5 losses early in the season would change that. Also don't see Richardson ever being interested in hiring Bill Cowher, even if Cowher were to express interest in coaching again.

JR is a cancer to this franchise. JR is the definition on how to build a mediocre franchise. Draft like dog crap, make a hardline stance against quality free agents, overpay your own players which are average at best.

we could go 1-15 and nobody would lose their job

it's cheaper to not fire guys

this is true and pretty much the M.O. of this franchise.

if there is going to be any kind of change at the top (including coaches), hurney would be the easiest to let go of since he's not under contract. you can move on from him without firing him. nothing really owed to him at all.

i doubt even that happens, but it would be the easiest to pull off.

that's why fox is still here, right?

that's why jake is still our QB and why we drafted a QB first overall.

richardson isn't exactly flexible, but he most certainly brought about change the last couple years. it might not have been all positive and all the right moves, but things are different now and it's pretty much JR's doing.

i'll give you the nothing done in midseason thing and letting HCs finish out their contracts...but he sure didn't stick with the status quo completely.

wouldn't want cowher, btw. i don't consider JR not wanting cowher to be a bad thing at all.

It hurts to say it but I think JR gives both Hurney and Rivera another season. After that I see Hurney staying on in some sort of capacity and Rivera being shown the door - but we have a lot of tough games to sit through before that is going to happen.

Rivera has at leas one more season and I would bet money he will finish his contract but who knows

John Fox never went below 7-9 until his lame duck year when JR made up his mind to change course before the season. If Rivera doesn't get his act together soon he's about to have two straight seasons of less than 7-9. I know JR is stubborn but I just don't see him tolerating a season where we regress.

For the first time in this franchise's history we have a superstar QB. I think even JR is smart enough to realize that if he continues to ride a sinking ship with Rivera that the chances he keeps that superstar QB drop every year.

Possible.

Recall after the lockout when everyone, including me, was down on JR for being a cheapskate?

He came out and threw a bunch of millions at players we didn't expect. Right or wrong he heard the criticism.

My gut is he hears us and changes are coming soon. Sure as hell hope so.

He has a history of a below average franchise. Anyone who is self made will not stand for that.

probably one of the best posts you've made. not that the bar was all that high, but still...spot on. :)

True, John Fox isn't here any longer. But Rivera is the same type of coach in a lot of ways, at least this year he has been. Last year, we looked like anything but a John Fox-coached team. This year we do. It's been like watching 2010 all over again at times. I do have to give JR credit for getting rid of Jake in spite of us having to pay him salary even while he was with another team.

but paying jake all we did didn't effect the cap. he should never have been given that contract to begin with, esp. after that miserable excuse for a playoff game that still gives me nightmares and bad gas. the previous two seasons he missed a lot of time and i think he went on IR both years? either way...you don't give a guy a new contract like that at that stage in his career with those kind of results.

rivera does seem kind of foxlike in that the team is trying to play it safe. that HAS to change now if they have any hopes. they have to play like they've got nothing to lose and just lay it all out.

that would be typical Panther's fashion.

To me it depends on how we lose games. I don't know which is worse for a coach on the hotseat..getting blown out and not even being competitive or being in games and screwing up at the end with terrible management. Rivera hasn't really been blown out that much at all...it's just the consistent end of game screw ups that happen because he doesn't know what he's doing and so he can't relay what to do to Cam (who also doesn't know what the hell he's doing).

If you are purely looking at records then I think less than 7-9 gets him fired...which means that out of Dallas, @Chicago, @Washington, Denver, Tampa, @Philly, @KC, Atlanta, @SD, Oakland, @NO we have to win 6 games.

With how we have been playing recently there isn't a chance in hell we win 6 more games. IF we improve and get guys healthy then I think we can beat Dallas, Tampa, KC, Oakland and POSSIBLY New Orleans to end the year. Even in doing that we only have a record of 5-11. IMO that gets Rivera ousted and we go hunting for a new coach and a new GM.
