ditto that, but also pissed that it once again took so long to get going.

I'll be impressed if he can pull that off...but I've given up on being pissed about us sucking so bad early in the year that when we finally get our poo together it doesn't matter.

I was aggravated in 2004 when we woke up in week 10 and proceeded to win 6 our of our last 8 for no damn reason. I was aggravated again in 2009 when Matt Moore woke up and learned how to play QB the last 5 games of the season...far too late for it to matter. I was upset when we figured out in week 12 last year that we can actually play decent football for four quarters instead of 3 after leaving most of the games early because "why not - we basically won right? Plus traffic".

So far this year I figure we'll put two and two together just in time to win some games when we're eliminated from contention but in just enough time to save everyone's jobs because "it looks like they got it together - next year is gonna be awesome".

I blame the bye week - with no game this week I get more time to stew.

I wish we were a young team. It'd make a lot more sense.

How are we not a young team?

Starters 27 and younger:

Cam

Tolbert

Stewart

Lafell

Olsen

Amini

Kalil

Bell

CJ

Hardy

Keuchly

Beason

Norman

Godfrey

Hakuri

28 and older:

Dlo

Smitty

Gross

Hangman

Ron Edwards

Dwan Edwards

Anderson

Gamble

(half of these can be easily replaced)

So tell me how were not a young team again?

Half can be replaced? We're still trying to replace our DTs from 2005. I would say maybe you meant half the talent, but nobody who has played safety lately has half the talent of Mike Minter.

Our offense is young. On defense, we have four quality starters (CJ, Keuchly and on occasion, Beast and TD58) under 27. Everybody else is scrub material. That's our problem.

I think the other thing you have to consider is who the opponent is. If we were facing NE or ATL or say AZ or a quality team at 1-4 and we played well and lost i don't think you go into panic mode and say that the whole system is flawed.

However, if we lose to a suspect Cowboys team at home, get outplayed by Romo, and outcoached by Garrett, then yes, we need to start thinking about replacing the HC.

No team has ever fallen to 1-5 and recovered to make the playoffs (not that I think we will at 1-4, either). The season would be effectively over and half the fanbase would start hoping for 1-15 just to get that #1 pick. The other half would hope for a small consolation 4 or 5 win season.

Seriously, if Rivera can't get this team prepared after a long hungry BYE break, hosting a team they can and should beat at home, knowing that the fans and ownership are almost ready to call for his head, then he should be fired.

Just for the record, I don't think JR would ever fire a coach mid season. If he didn't fire Seifert and he didn't fire Fox midseason, he's not going to do it to Rivera. I think he will give RR his 3rd year, but I do think that they will lose some of the fan base if they turn in a 3 or 4 win season (which is where they seem to be headed).

Best case right now: we go to 2-4 and basically go .500 from there, putting us at 7-9 for the season. However, I think we will win a maximum of 4 games this season. And I'm kinda ready to go ahead and call the Rivera hiring a major mistake. The guy doesn't have it and that explains why 7 other teams passed on him.

It hurts to say it but I think JR gives both Hurney and Rivera another season. After that I see Hurney staying on in some sort of capacity and Rivera being shown the door - but we have a lot of tough games to sit through before that is going to happen.

Changes will be made after this season if we don't have a winning season. Whether it is Rivera and his staff or Hurney...you can't keep a staff around who is 12-20 (or less) in the last two seasons. If you look at coaches who got fired early in their tenure recently you've got:

Raheem Morris - Actually had a 10-6 season (fired after 3rd year)

Jim Caldwell - Got fired with a winning record (was 28-22 and had 14 of those losses in one season)

Mike Singletary - Got the job at midseason and went 5-4, 8-8, then 5-10 then got fired at the end of that season.

IMO Morris and Caldwell did a better job in their time than Rivera is doing currently. Singletary was terrible and deserved to get fired. If Rivera doesn't get this thing on the right track and get us to a winning record then he should be fired...period. He is paid to win games with the talent he has (which isn't all that bad other than a few positions) and he hasn't to this point. Go get someone who has some freaking head coaching experience on this staff.

A telling characteristic about this team is that we are the only team other than the 49ers that doesn't have at least one coach with NFL HC experience.

Common sense says you're right and if they're not getting the job done they should be replaced.

The history of our organization (John Fox, Marty Hurney, Jake Delhomme, Deshaun Foster, etc etc etc) says that we'll stick with them longer than we should.

Well, you are being "loose" with what a starter is....

For example, Tolbert isn't a starter. Not in reality. In reality he is our 3rd string RB.

Then you include guys who wouldn't start on most NFL teams like Nakamura, Godfrey, etc.

Then you include rookies....and you never know how that pans out

Nothing about our history suggests we pull the trigger and move on at the same pace as others

Tolbert is our starting fullback and Nak and Godfrey are our two safetys? I named all our starters regardless of how good they are. And for the other guy when i say half of our players over 28 can be easily replaced i mean its not hard to go find another player like Dwan, Ron, Hangman, and Dlo. I was just trying to prove we have way more young players than old.

.

Major difference with your examples is that they didnt work for Jerry Richardson when they were fired.

Am I the only one who remembers JR lame ducking Foxes last year cause he was under contract?
