Anyone else tired of Smitty?

He has always wore his emotions on his sleeve.I do not think he is calling out anyone ...I think he is trying to motivate him.

But it cant be all excused as wanting to motivate Clausen in 2010 or Cam in 2012.....he showed his immaturity in it all as well.

Cant excuse all behavior based on where it may be rooted

What is this "all" that you speak of in reference to Smitty and Cam in 2012? He told him to get off the bench and take notes when the offense was on the field at the end of the Giants game. There's nothing wrong with that. That is 100% intent to motivate, that is maturity and leadership, not immaturity. I'm not saying the fighting with DBs is not immaturity, to an extent it is, but nothing in regards to his relationship with Cam is negative at all. Having a "chip on your shoulder" is at its core an immature characteristic, and that immature characteristic is what has driven him to be as great as he has been. Yea, his age is starting to show a bit, but he's still doing better than any other receiver on the team.

Smith telling Cam on a sideline to get off a bench is fine....but Smith did more than that.

Smitty went to the media and got on a soapbox which was the immature Smith still not understanding how to lead.

So again, you can't excuse all behavior bc of the root of it. Smith has no room to get on a soapbox and go through the media.....it was a joke. It added more eyes and pressure on a kid that already more than any player in our franchise history. Just bc Cam needs to be shown how to lead.....doesn't mean anyone can do anything.

Ricky Prohel = mature leader in 2003

Steve Smith = immature guy with a C on his chest

What is said, is Smith even acknowledged the way he should of handled it....both while he was handling it wrong and when he apologized a few days later

I guess different people see different things. I know he said he should have handled it different later, but I can only imagine he was asked to say that to deflect what the media was making out of it. He was asked about what happened, he answered the question. I didn't see it as getting on a soapbox, he didn't go into a rant about it. He didn't go to the media, the media came to him and asked. We all know there's not much of a filter between Smitty's brain and his mouth, but I didn't think what he said when the media asked about it was out of line. But to each his own.

I know this probably wont go over well but I am starting to get a little tired of Smitty. He acts like a 5 year old that throws temper tantrums and is off his meds. It seems like every game he is starting a fight and is always wrestling on the ground with a opposing DB. Then you have the fiasco of him calling out Cam publicly after the Giants game. I know this part isnt entirely his fault but here we are heading imto game 6 and he doesnt have a single TD yet, not one! I am actually shocked he hasnt been flagged once yet for unsportsman like conduct with all the fights he starts. He might be a proven vet and I can accept him being just a little scrappy but lately it seems like he cares more about starting a fight.

Am I tired of the best WR on the team? Am I tired of someone that needs to say something and does? Am I tired of one of the best receivers in the League? NO, I'm not

I wouldnt say im tired of him....but the act is wearing a little thin. Suplexing that DB last game, right infront of the ref, was extremely stupid. You can see his frustration just bubbling up. Someone better watch out....they might catch a patented Smitty ass whoopin.

And when he was on his soapbox going through the media....he noted how prior great leaders handled issues that players like Cam go through and how they handled it differently than he was.....he just didn't care.

Smitty has never been the overall leader this board occasionally wants to paint him.....overall he has just been a hot head the team and organization has handled differently. He is a hell of a WR.....a good community guy.....but has consistantly been a questionable teammate throughout his career.

His behavior is a little concerning, but you get the good with the bad with him, I'll take it. Plus the guy is one of the smaller players on the team and he has the most fire. If the team or any of the defensive players were as aggressive and driven it wouldn't be an issue. He is the biggest and baddest dog on the field - the alpha dog, the young db's are going to test him to make a name for themselves.

Keep it up Smith - them young db's are trying to learn to be fiesty - MMA thier A@#$)#$!

not tired of smitty. tired of crap threads made but that's another story.

that said, smitty has been getting into more scraps than usual this year and he's been making more mistakes than we're used to, but so has pretty much everyone in this offense (mistake making).

to an extent he's got his head up his ass but i think it's temporary. when things start getting a bit better on the team and people pick it up like i think/hope will happen after the bye, he'll be fine.

when i look at smitty on the team, i see him as a great player. always has been. he's a threat when he's on the field. off the field he's an awesome human being with a heart of gold. he's a fiery guy that expects to lay everything out on the field and he's kind of unrestrained in that aspect. it's a great guy to have on your team, but not the kind of guy you need to have as a leader on the team because the accelerator on him is welded to the floor. leaders have to show restraint in dealing with the players that they are leading, esp. in front of others.

i'm not tired of smith because i know what to expect from him.
