A problem we might be overlooking

not sure who that was towards, but one thing i believe is that there is no singular cause. it's a tropical storm of causes. lots of manageable things that turns into the tropical storm of failure we're seeing.

Cam needs to stop looking for the homerun pass eacjh and every time he drops back. I have seen several times where Olsen or HB/FB are wide open in the flats or in the soft spot of a zone defense and he is sitll looking at the deep ball to WR's. our average yards gain on 1st down is killing our drives.

Agreed... coupled with the fact that our porous defense has a hard time stopping anyone, Cam should look to establish longer drives and take the big shots only after teams adjust or someone misses their assignment.

i think we're leading the league in big plays but it's mainly because we are so singularly focused on the big play that we are leaving a lot of yards and plays on the field. i think it's a mixture of chud and cam that is the problem. they want the big impact plays. they want exciting. they want to entertain. cam also wants to win the game...and i mean HE wants to win the game because that's the pressure that he and everyone else puts on him and for some reason he thinks that it's going to be his big impact plays that makes it happen.

i don't want him to be a "game manager" but i do want him to be a better game manager...same with chud. less flash, more substance. there will be plenty of time for flash, esp. when the other team isn't expecting it every play.

O-Line.

We aren't able to get 4-5 yards consistently on first and second down by running the ball.

Couple that with Cam being pretty inaccurate on his short throws, and you get lots of short drives.

We average 4.5 yards per carry overall...I'm not sure how that works on just 1st and 2nd down.

it might be that we need to have 6 OL out there just to make sure that the RBs can have room to run and that cam has time to throw the ball (of course him holding on to the ball so long waiting for that big play down field doesn't help the Oline at all).

i don't like the idea of taking a potential weapon off the field so that we can have an extra lineman and i really don't like that it's needed, but that's the way it is so we have to work with what we've got. having that extra weapon/outlet on the field for cam might not be helping anyway.

cam just needs to get the ball out quicker and spread the ball out more. he needs to focus less on the big play and focus more on getting the ball to the open man, whoever that is. that will open things up a whole lot more and give us more success in those moments where we go for the big play. this will also make it a lot easier for the OL, but with kalil out we really need to be doing everything we can to make the OL more effective.
