A problem we might be overlooking

I think we can all agree that it's kind of difficult to convert on the 3rd down when u burn the first two downs on the read option that the defense knows is coming.

It's ok though - because the read option we run on 3rd down will fool them.

Noone expects a third read option.

Raw pass/run numbers aren't as telling as percentages of pass plays to our offensive plays.

We have 140 pass attempts vs 128 rushes...so we already are passing more than rushing....and some rushes were called passes.

For example, Miami is 16th in pass attempts vs us as 29. Miami runs more than they pass

We really miss Shockey (He could also block). Tall target that Cam utilized well. I would like to see us go to some 2 back sets and get out of the shotgun some to change things up. Cam needs to dump the ball off more as well and go to Olsen. Of course, our RBs have to catch the ball. Smitty, DLo, Stewart and the OL were collectively bad last week. I don't think our percentages as far as running versus passing are a problem. His confidence will improve if he starts completing more passes. Chud needs to wake up. We have players that can make plays if the playcalling enables that to happen.

This team needs to stop treating Cam like a "black quarterback", and just let him play quarterback.

Way to address the elephant in the room buddy. Jake Locker is athletic too, but you don't see the Titans running a read option. We ran those plays less than twenty times last year, and it is our base offense. Mr. Chud is personally engineering Cam's sophomore slump.

I'd love to see the numbers to show how many times we've done the option thing. I completely agree it's being overdone but I don't think it's used so much that it's actually our base offense. I question whether that is a term that got thrown out and now it's just being run with....

agreed. the option isn't killing the offense. it's the play calling and execution of the players that has been the problem.

if the play caller is making wise choices and the players aren't screwing up then even the option would work well. the scheme can't do as much damage as the guys making the decisions and playing on the field can and has.

i believe a lot of the "option" plays that people see are no more than a shotgun formation with a rb in for protection.

true and this is no different than what most QBs in the league are doing. one back sets with the Qb in the shotgun...very normal. people just look at us doing it and automatically assume it's just another option play.

I believe you are pointing out a symptom of our offensive problems, not the cause.

not sure who that was towards, but one thing i believe is that there is no singular cause. it's a tropical storm of causes. lots of manageable things that turns into the tropical storm of failure we're seeing.
