pff week 6 power rankings

Recommended Posts

I mean correct me if Im wrong but it seemed to me last year we ran a pro style offense with a couple of sprinkles of the option and whatnot. We were ranked top 10 in offense.

I guess we got too cute and the saying If it aint broke don't fix it applies to this offense this season.

This is what I can't understand either.

I went back and rewatched some of the games from last year, and Cam did well throwing from under center. You can tell he is more comfortable from the gun, but his throws, rollouts, and handoffs all looked clean and comfortable.

I don't understand where that offense went.

Last year's offense required him to read defenses. So, did Cam get dumber this year?

just because he was under center and making plays doesn't mean he was effective at reading defenses.

he could have been given a simple 1 or 2 read and run if they're not open option.

and playing under center in the red zone doesn't really count either since the defense is limited in what it can do.

True it's possible that he could have been given 1 or 2 reads per play under center, but that wasn't the case - you can watch his youtube highlights if you don't have game film. That's what I had to do.

And even if that were true, our RBs are in better position to be effective and comfortable receiving quicker handoffs from the QB. Defenses would be forced to account for Williams and Stewart again. So, an offensive scheme switch isn't just about Cam. It would help put our other backs in position to make plays.

    • Some of you who are not sold on Canales are insane. His main purpose was to turn around Bryce Young’s career and he did that. Of all of the teams in the top 10 of the NFL draft, we were the team that was consistently showing the most fight week in and week out. Our players never quit on the season. The offense which he is responsible for took a huge step forward compared to last year, despite the lack of skill talent  that we have. It was our defense that was a mess. That’s one of my critiques on Canales. He should’ve gotten rid of Evero and hired his own DC that shares the same vision. But as a whole, I can’t see how people are not pleased with what Canales did with this team. I’d give him an 9/10
    • One of the first thoughts after the game yesterday was that JT was going to jump all over it. He's been more favorable about BY from the beginning, and so yesterday must've felt like Christmas.
    • Maybe, but they were always going to be an impossible team to accurately mocked right now. They have an absurd amount of cap room, what they need right now will not be what they need come draft day.  They can make multiple big splash signings and even make trades for players who need new contracts and their teams don't want to give it to them. OT and WR might be their two biggest needs right now, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to think they could go into the draft needing neither of them.  I think a LT will be their top FA priority, also think they're going to make a big offer to Higgins, and I could see them being a team in the running to trade for someone like DK Metcalf as they need a WR like him and they have the cap space to give him a big new contract.
