Best college player at each position

For my personal opinion:

CB: Three way tie between Dee Milliner, Johnthan Banks, Xavier Rhodes (all #1 CB caliber). Followed closely by Jordan Poyer and Terry Hawthrone.

FS: None are really worth a top 10 pick in my opinion. Reid has been a bit disappointing this year considering the DL he has. Did he flash more because of Claiborne, Mathieu, and Taylor? Jefferson definitely has great coverage skills. McDonald is solid not much of a ballhawk. I really like Robert Lester and Bacarri Rambo. Look like the best all around and can be had in the 2nd.

DT: Hankins takes the cake. Instant impact player right away. Star has the potential but hasn't put it together. I like Short a lot. Very stout run defender and good pass rusher. Akeem Spence and Sheldon Richardson have stepped up this year. Jonathan Jenkins is a huge NT.

DE: I like Montgomery more than Mingo and he would fit our system. I love Werner because there is no quit in this guy. Good all around DE. Jeffcoat and Okafor are a great duo too. We can probably get solid DE's from the 2nd and on though.

WR: I would rate 1.Keenan Allen 2.Justin Hunter (only because he tore his ACL) followed by 3.Robert Woods. The rest i see as #2 WR's with DeAndre Hopkins and Da'Rick Roger having #1 potential.

TE: Eifert is obviously the best. I really like Stanford's duo Ertz and Toilolo. Lutzenkirchen would be a great 2nd option to Olsen.

OL: The top ones are Texas A&M's bookends OT Joeckel & Mathews. Trailed by D.J. Fluker and Taylor Lewan. The latter being more RT's. As for OG's Chance Warmack and Larry Warfords are monsters. I love Barrett Jones' versatility. All in all it's a deep draft for OL so i would probably hold off.

I hope that helped.

i keep on seeing people mention hankins for DT, but his problems keeping his weight down is a huge red flag for me, esp. at a position that is so prone to busting and comes naturally with a yellow caution flag waving more than most positions.

taking that guy in the top 10 is a huge risk. the talent might be there to be a day one starter, but you have to look at what the guy might be like 3-5 years down the road. honestly a big guy struggling with weight problems will only get worse as they get older. being overweight at the very least could result in massive knee problems.

just my .02.

We could go in all kinds of different directions in the first round. It will be very interesting

probably BPA from any position except QB, RB, or LB.

and i'd be fine with it.

that is something that anyone doing a mock for the panthers needs to be considering...esp. in here.

you can't go and mock a guy for the draft based on need, esp. if you have any hope of it being realistic. you're going to have to either know or guess where we are drafting as well as who is ahead of us and mock them as well to see who the BPAs are. zoning in on one or two positions isn't going to help make a good mock.

Do you guys really feel like DT is that early of a need? For the 1st time in awhile I feel good about what we have going forward at DT with Neblett , Kearse as depth for Edwards squared.. FA seems the best place to find DT's anyhow.

Yea, I do. I think our DTs are playing OK right now, but Ron ain't no spring chicken. I'd rather get one too early than get one too late (which is what we've been doing for the past 5 or 6 years...). Without Ron, we have no run stuffers. Kearse looked good at times last year, haven't seen anything positive out of him this year though. He's the only other guy that comes close to being able to fill Ron's role.

(and please don't try to mention Fua as an alternative...)

In my opinion, the only other position that should really be considered in the 1st (barring some all-world player at a position of less need falling to us) is WR if there's a guy available that looks to be a legit #1 star WR replacement for Smitty.
