Signed a three-year, $8.25 million contract

Carlos Rogers Defensive Back 3/13/2012: Signed a four-year, $29.3 million contract.

Charles Godfrey Defensive Back 9/9/2011:Signed a six-year, $28.7 million contract

Reggie Nelson Defensive Back 3/18/2012: Signed a four-year, $18 million contract.

Dawan Landry Defensive Back 7/29/2011: Signed a five-year, $27.5 million contract.

Haruki Nakamura Defensive Back 3/16/2012: Signed a three-year, $4.8 million contract

Sure, we could have sign any of those guys instead of Godfrey for about the same money. And Gamble and Rogers sure sounds nice at cbs. However, how does the safety combination of Martin and Naka sound to you???

It is not Godfrey that is the problem (although you could argue that he is overpayed). It is the other safetly spot (regardless if Naka or Martin plays).

Please let me know what safety we should have signed in the 3 years $4.8M contract region?

And while you are at it please add a three-year, $8.25 million contract (Ron, Dwans in undisclosed) DT and a cb for about $2M a year (which is what we could make room for with some cuts as we are starting a minimum wage rookie now).

Godfrey certainly is a problem. Again, don't let bad FS play confuse the situation. Godfrey can't cover or tackle....he is just an athlete who makes random plays. The lack of consistency when Godfrey is on the field has been a liability for years now. Worst starting S since he entered the league.....everyone else that plays as bad has been benched or let go. Panther fans just look across the field and say well he is better than Nakamura so he is good

godfrey is an average at best safety getting paid like one of the best. now i can see paying CJ, williams, stewart, and beason like we did if it's recognizing the talent that they have and wanting to keep talent here. but godfrey? meh...

godfrey should be playing corner, imo. probably same with martin. i just don't see either of them or nakamura as being what we need at safety.

godfrey's contract, though, is going to hamper our ability to bring in someone that deserves it and who could earn it.

if it were up to me, this offseason we would go after the best (or one of the 2-3 best) free agent safeties and then pick one up very early in the draft. that position, more than any, needs a massive overhaul.

Dude, we HAVE a "Matt Millen". You want to settle for garbage because you're afraid of getting more garbage?

That said, about Cam in the Red Zone. We all know his amazing runs last season in the Red Zone. But I wonder if Chud is doing what he's doing for a reason. Don't get me wrong, I love Cam and know he can ball. But does anyone else worry he can't make those short throws yet? Wasn't that a knock on him coming out of college? Hell, he ran it all the time at Auburn too in goal or 3rd and short situations. I know his body is built for it, but there may be a crappy reason that's what we usually see from him. He missed horribly this past week. And if it's not that sort of pass, it's to the sideline to LaFell or Smitty with a CB all over them.

Can Cam make these passes REGULARLY? Please, convince me, someone. I'm worried.

As to the short "touch" passes......no he cannot.

Cam has a rocket arm, much like Favre, but he has not quite figured out the touch passes yet. He may never.

The passes that go over LB's and sit down in front of S's is what makes QB's like Brady and Brees so hard to defend. That does take time to get used to, but Cam really needs to work on it.

If we don't have any deep threats on the outside, we have to adopt a shorter passing game. Right now I don't trust Cam to be able to do this.

Season's Over

If you're still defending Hurney by now, it's high time you get your head examined.

Ron Rivera is a Bad Head Coach.

Cam Newton is Being Utilized Poorly.

Have you realized up until now that there's no positive correlation between how much talent you have at RB and how many wins you have?

Kuechly should be the MLB from now on.

I bumped this because every point I made in the general sense can still be applied a year later

Good job, JR
