A few simple truths the Panthers need to cope with to move on for the better

JR knows very well what The Huddle is. If I'm not mistaken, he even stopped by one of The Huddle's tailgates a few years back. I know they're some people here that remember it, or were there. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hey, Harbaugh was once a QB for his Panthers and all of a sudden he just forgot who Harbaugh is. I wouldn't be surprise if JR forgot about the huddle as well.

Here's two more truths that the fans need to cope with:

(1) Lafail is at best a 3rd WR. The man clearly cannot create separation and I'm not saying it anymore. Hes you 30-40 rec, 500 yds, and 3-4 tds receiver. If I have to see one more person points out that he's very similar to Moose, ima shoot a lot of people ;). The only similarity Moose and Lafail shares together is the color of their skin. I'm not being racist. But Lafail is no where close to being a receiver of Moose.

(2) Just bc Lafail failed on a lot of people this year, it doesn't mean an injured Gettis is going to come and save the world for us. Make it simple, Gettis is close to being done.

Not trying to defend Hurney, but I am getting sick and tired of all the "we should get a DT, CB, safety, bla bla".

Please add the names of

DT

CB

FS

signed as free agents by other teams this off season that we should have signed.

And YES, you need to include the contract number and show how that fits under our cap (as you of course know, don´t you?).

It is very easy to point fingers, it is a lot harder to fix the problems.

We are 1-4, mainly, because we are undertalented by poor drafting for years (included drafitng the wrong position, RB, in the first). But still, I WOULD NEVER GIVE UP ON MY TEAM AFTER 5 GAMES!!!!!!, please show some faith, or at least a fools hope!

Oh my god

Just go take a look at the contract Landry signed for on rotoworld. And Reggie Nelson. For starters, both of their contracts are for less than what Godfrey is being paid.

lets don't forget carlos rodgers the year before.

we should have signed him and there's been quite a few others we could/should have signed who would have really helped.

At this point in the game Im starting to realize its not Hurney or Rivera, its JR. A lot of what has taken place points to this and its a troubling sign for our future. Why in any other world would a GM sign two starting RBs 20 LBs and forget CB and the Dline. Also on draft day why would we trade away picks when the plan is to build from the draft. If Hurney is not fired this year we will know the truth.

Season's Over

If you're still defending Hurney by now, it's high time you get your head examined.

...You need to have a clue as to whats wrong in order to fix it...he doesn't get it.

Ron Rivera is a Bad Head Coach.

...he isn't who we thought he was, so if you want to fire him, then fire his @ss!

.

Cam Newton is Being Utilized Poorly.

... yea, they are just riding him like a horse...

Have you realized up until now that there's no positive correlation between how much talent you have at RB and how many wins you have?

... nother colossal Hurney failure, one of many which is why we are in this pathetic shape.

.

Kuechly should be the MLB from now on.

... he plays great there but don't think he will be able stand up to the punishment..

GREAT POST!!!!!

Agreed with everything.

Cam is being underutilized. How many people have seen Cam throw a fade at the end zone to one of his receiver? Have we ever seen Cam throw a fade since his time here? NO!

Rivera has done a very poor job at developing Cam into a pro style QB.

I feel like I saw him throw two fades in a row to Lamont Bryant after he caught that huge pass in preseason... Could be wrong though.

OP is spot on. It's unfortunate, but it is reality.

Normally, former coordinators have learned enough about game management to eliminate that as an issue. I really can't remember another coordinator turned head coach that seemed as unprepared as Rivera on game day. He flat out doesn't understand clock management, 2 minute drills, when to accept/decline penalties, etc. How is that even possible? How can you spend that much time around the game and not understand some of the most fundamental stuff?

I rewatched part of the Seattle game last night. There was a sequence when either we were in the red zone or Seattle was. I don't remember off hand except that it was a red zone situation. The camera flashed to the sideline, and Ron was there watching the field with his normal blank look, then out of the corner of his eye, he noticed an assistant next to him working on a player's helmet. So Ron turns to him and starts to help him with the helmet. It was a critical part of the game, and yet Ron had no focus on the field action at all, to the point that he could be distracted by somebody working on a damn helmet.

We have to make a change day 1 after the season is over.

Lol at Rivera fixing a helmet. I was at the game and when Rivera walked on the field and the assistant handed him a red challenge flag to use incase he needed it during the game.. Rivera looked as though he had no idea what he was being given. Like he was being handed a bloody maxi pad and he didnt know what to do with it.

Therein lies the problem. We are stuck with Marty. And if Marty is fired, who does JR bring in?

Doesnt matter at this point - we are stuck with the bodies we have now and the high dollar contracts those bodies have in writing

Signed a three-year, $8.25 million contract

lets don't forget carlos rodgers the year before.

we should have signed him and there's been quite a few others we could/should have signed who would have really helped.

Carlos Rogers Defensive Back 3/13/2012: Signed a four-year, $29.3 million contract.

Charles Godfrey Defensive Back 9/9/2011:Signed a six-year, $28.7 million contract

Reggie Nelson Defensive Back 3/18/2012: Signed a four-year, $18 million contract.

Dawan Landry Defensive Back 7/29/2011: Signed a five-year, $27.5 million contract.

Haruki Nakamura Defensive Back 3/16/2012: Signed a three-year, $4.8 million contract

Sure, we could have sign any of those guys instead of Godfrey for about the same money. And Gamble and Rogers sure sounds nice at cbs. However, how does the safety combination of Martin and Naka sound to you???

It is not Godfrey that is the problem (although you could argue that he is overpayed). It is the other safetly spot (regardless if Naka or Martin plays).

Please let me know what safety we should have signed in the 3 years $4.8M contract region?

And while you are at it please add a three-year, $8.25 million contract (Ron, Dwans in undisclosed) DT and a cb for about $2M a year (which is what we could make room for with some cuts as we are starting a minimum wage rookie now).

I think what Rayzor is referring to is 2011. Many of us wanted Rogers signed when he was a FA in August of 2011. He went to SF on a one year deal for just over $2 million.

As to Godfrey, he was drafted in the 3rd round the same year as DeCoud, Atlanta's safety. Both were re-signed last year. DeCoud, who has been the better player, was resigned for an average of $3.5 million per year. Godfrey averages $4.8 million. What are we getting for that extra $1.3 million per year?

Maybe no one wants to play here and Marty has to overpay. But please don't try to convince us that Marty isn't paying more than most teams to retain "talent", while at the same time ignoring reasonably priced FA's other than lower level guys.

The consequences of overpaying your own players are far-reaching. Talent at FS is a vacuum due in part because we're paying Godfrey this ridiculous contract. There are very few people in their second contracts on this team that are actually worth what they're being paid.
