"One word" play calling

How the hell does one option away from a blitz? In fact, that's how you stop an option... numbers. Hesitation is a byproduct of 1te 1wr routes or wr not getting open. Obviously Cam has had some issues, but Chud has been rigid and just plain bad. What is he going to fix in a week, that he couldn't in an entire off season?

Because you can't blitz 11 men. The purpose of the option by design is to have the OPTION to run the play to the edge or to the middle. Usually a blitz is designed to pressure the edge(s) or crash middle. Obviously you can scheme this out a number of different ways, but a even a seven man rush can't crash every gap.

If the defense crashes down on the middle the play has to go outside. If the first option is a dive Cam has to see the crash and pull the run to the outside. Instead he hands the ball off the Dwill and watches him get smashed before even getting back to the LOS. If Cam keeps that ball he gets at least 4 yards and we force the defense to react. Once you can get a defense to react you can pretty much run what ever you want.

They don't need to crash every gap. They simply need the D linemen to stay home and have the LBers and safety shoot the G/T or off tackle gaps. EVERYONE knows which side of the field we're going to run to. The D just stays disciplined, all that's left is to make the tackle. We don't even fake the option and pass anymore.
