when i tell these kids.. o line.. everyone push left.. guess what.. the entire line pushes left.. when i tell the line backers, stay home in case of a cut back..they stay home. when i tell the safety to blitz, he runs harder than anything ive ever seen right smack to the smallest hole in the line. and at the same time, my middle line backer instinctively drops back (i didnt even teach him that) when they mess up tackles, i tell them.. get in front of him. he can run through your arms but not through you, and those kids do it right the next time. my best defensive lineman at 8 years old is the only kids out of 5 teams weve played to do a swim move. he learned it in 5 minutes. the defensive end, he knows his assignment is to turn everything inside, tackle if he comes near you, and thats what he does, and thats all he does. and my running back.. well man, that kid just breaks ankles every monday night. (i garuntee this kid will go far)

my point here is that these kids are 6-8 years old. they goof around, they dont listen ALOT of the time. but on game day, they are in game mode. its all business. every single kid has learned that if he does HIS job, the team succeeds. we teach this kids that the basics are the most important. proper tackling, proper blocking, not holding, not jumping snaps... and you know what. in 5 games, we have 3 penalties, we've lost 1 game by 2 points and we have had 2 shutouts. this is on a team with 19 kids, going against teams with 30-40 sometimes. and we are in no way outsizing these other teams. even our 5th quarter kids (while still learning assignments) play there hearts out when they are on the field.

i think maybe its time for the carolina panthers to take a lesson from these kids. get back to basics. focus on YOUR JOB. dont try to be a super star, dont try to be all over the field, hold your ground, perform your task to the best of your abilty and the wins will come. when you do that, and when you know your team mate is doing that, your job is much easier. and before you know it, your TEAM is winning games. not your super star qb, or your 96 million dollar back field, but your entire team....and for whats its worth, id like for my favorite NFL team to be as exciting as my pop warner team, so how about get with program guys??
