What would it take for you to stop being a Panthers fan?

Hard to think of much - I could probably withstand anything short of the franchise folding (and that hasn't been a worry for a team since the 60s (NY Titans)). I don't know. I could be about 50/50 on a move. I've withstood enough shitty seasons to deal with anything less.

Maybe if they left the Carolinas. When I started following the NBA, the Hornets were the city's team, so I became a fan of them. When they left, I continued to cheer for them for a year or two. Then we got the Bobcats, and I started following them. I don't really follow them, or care about them, because I don't like basketball all that much anymore. My guess is I would continue to follow the Panthers even if they moved, but if Charlotte/the Carolinas got another team, I might switch. However, the NFL isn't likely to add another team any time in the foreseeable future, so Panthers it is.

Like everyone else has said it would be hard if the Panthers moved and were not longer the "Carolina" Panthers.

The other thing that no one has mentioned is if Jerry Richardson dies and whomever takes over as new owner is a total tool. I'd have trouble rooting for a team that had an owner I hated or I thought was just out to make money.

In spite of the contracts given to our backfield and to CJ, sometimes I think JR only has his eye on the bottom line.

Ive been following the Panthers as a fan since their inception through thick and thin.

Im not getting any younger and am growing weary of every other year being one of famine - or worse - I respect JR for what he did to get this team for the Carolinas - but I wonder about his commitment to fielding a winning team as some other posters have already suggested - when you can make millions with a mediocre product why bother stressing out too much because you arent the creme de la creme of the NFL? You can call me a bandwagoner if you want but tommorrow I may not even waste my time watching the game - I'll probably half listen to it on the radio as I spend my afternoon in less pointless pursuits than cheering on a team that is obviously going no where as long as we have the current ownership, front office, manager, and coaching staff in charge.

I cheer for the Panthers because I enjoy it. If there comes a time that I don't enjoy it, I'll drop them and never think of it again. The fact that some people are holding up being a fan of a team you don't like as being a virtue is idiotic.

The closest I came to giving up on the Panthers was the 2010 season. I remember 2001 but I was too young to fully grasp how awful it all was. In 2010 I began to question my devotion to the Panthers. I didn't want to root for a team if I cared more about winning than the front office/owner, and 2010 demonstrated exactly that for me. By week 7 or 8 I had stopped keeping up with Panthers news and started watching football just to watch football. I rooted for other teams, but just couldn't bring myself to really give a fug. I began realizing that I could never give up on the Panthers, but just couldn't deal with the Panthers ruining my Sundays week after week. I was in fan purgatory. I had no emotional investment in football. Then we got Cam. At the slightest sign of hope I was fully invested once again. For better or for worse, as they say.

tl;dr: As much as constant disappointment makes me envious of fans of winning teams, I could never really give up on the Panthers. Every week I will throw things, say I hate the Panthers and end up with my girl not talking to me because of my tantrum, but by the next day I'll be talking poo to fans of the team that beat us and convincing myself Cam will bring us to the promise land.

What would it take for you to stop being a Panthers fan?

I was going to ask what kind of a nonsense question that is, until I saw...

Would it take the team moving to a different city?

That would suck, and I wouldn't blame anyone for ditching a team that ditches them.

If you are from the carolinas, having a professional football team isnt something you would let go of easily.....ever imo. Being a huge nfl fan my entire life and finally getting a home team is the single most important sports moment of my life. Like I said, you might have to be from and grown up around the area to fully understand the importance of our team.
