Perspective on Cam: Numbers compared to last year

The one that sticks out is pass attempts. Through four games this year, Newton has thrown 56 fewer than at the same point last year. So far this year, the Panthers are running 11 fewer offensive plays than their opponents (57.25 to 68.25); last year, they had 15 more plays per game than their opponents through the first four games. This split is unsustainable. It can result from both positive and negative factors – turnovers and special teams errors giving opponent shorter field versus longer, third down rates, defense giving up big plays versus long drives, etc.

Yes, Newton fumbled at a key moment in the last game against Atlanta. Descriptively, we can say he is slumping, if that means anything. Predictively, his numbers look better. Interceptions are rare and volatile, and his rushing numbers, completion percentage, yards per attempt and touchdown rate are better than the same point last year. The difference is how we perceive him.

There's plenty more, have a read: http://www.thebiglead.com/index.php/2012/10/03/whats-wrong-with-cam-newton-nothing-but-our-perception/

So that means that Cam is having a better year than last year.....we as a fan base need to get used to the media hounding every move that we make. We have a superstar QB.....for the good or the bad. Us/him not winning is a big story. Apparently all the media expects us to be undefeated right now.

Not going to argue with the #'s posted... Because they are what they are... BUT his ydg is WAY down from last year. Those stats don't tell the whole story. I am Pro Cam for sure and not trolling. Just pointing out the fact that those stats were extrapolated by someone who has an obvious bias to make him look good.

Also it's important to note that he has the same amt of int's with 56 less attempts.

I love cam to the fullest, but anybody who's being real about it can honestly look at his performances and say they are lackluster in comparison to his fast start last year. Not a big deal, but lets be honest.

His yardage is down because of his 56 less attempts.

His yardage is projected to be almost identical to last years when extrapolated over an entire season. So no, his numbers aren't down, they are only down when compared to the first few games of last year. Remember he threw for almost 900 yards in the first two games last year.

You can not "project" his #'s or any players #'s with any amt of accuracy. I'm well aware of what he threw for last year. I thought I made it very clear that I'm not hating on him whatsoever so there should have been no need for a defense for him by anybody. I'm extremely proud of him and what he has accomplished thus far this season. Could he have been better? Absolutely, but he could have also come out of the gate a lot worse. I just pointed out that the stats provided in the OP could be seen as biased towards perpetuating him in a more positive light. If all stats were included, it'd be obvious that he's not "statistically" as close to last year as the selected stats would indicate.

Actually, outside of yardage totals, he's better in every major statistical category than he was last year.
