You do not know football. The free safety's number 1 responsibility is coverage above all else. If he can't tackle well, that should be ok as long as he's solid in coverage. The strong safety's responsibility is mostly tackling but should have the ability to cover.

So because it's not the free safetys #1 responsibility to tackle it's okay for them to be terrible at it? Is it also okay for your CB's to be terrible at tackling? Come on it's not good if anybody on your defense misses tackles at the rate that Martin did last year.

Rivera said Martin gets out of position at times going for a huge hit instead of wrapping up a back or receiver with a sure tackle.

According to Pro Football Focus, Martin missed a tackle every 4.5 attempts last season, which ranked among the bottom seven safeties in the league.

“A big part of the game that I messed up on last year was tackling. That’s something I’ve got to improve on,” Martin said. “Other than that, just coming out and working. Just constantly getting better and putting myself in better position and just finish plays.”

I would have loved for Barron to fall to us but he didn't and we had other holes to fill without giving up draft picks to move up.

Who was a good safety that was drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round?

Why not talk about our SS and the rate he misses tackles....that would be more appropriate. LBs as well.

Because this is a thread about Nakamura and how he is playing in Martin's spot not Godfrey's.

I know what a FS job is but to say he doesn't need to be a good tackler is asinine. Riveria said he needed to be a better tackler, PFF showed you the stats, and Martin himself said that was the part of his game that needed the most work so why are you arguing this?

I can't he was a backup to Ed Reed and really only saw action on special teams which is why he was brought here and he beat out Martin in training camp for the starting job.

did you watch the colts game last season? sherrod martin looked like a kicker trying to tackle reggie wayne. in fact, he sucked pretty much all of last year.

the only thing martin is probably better than than naka at is ball skills. and even then, martin's picks that i remember are ducks or tipped passes. not coverage interceptions.

Have you watched a F'n game this year? What has changed? We given up 3 100 yard rushers in 4 games and the Doug Martin had 96 yards. What games are you watching?

In all fairness to Nakamura the whole secondary was really to blame for the pass from the end zone. If you look back at it Douglas motions in to max protect so Godfrey should have rolled over earlier but was late getting there so it put Nakamura in a tough spot with Jones and White since White got by Norman so easily. Now Nakamura should have played the ball not the receiver but there is a ton of blame to go around and I am sure Riveria saw that on the tape so that is why he is getting another shot. Bottom line is the whole secondary needs to play better.

Name me the game where Martin by himself cost us a game? Now ask me the same question about Naka.

Nakamura has better technique on tackles and the scouting report backs up what I see, so I can't show you stats that aren't available since he was a special team's ace that backed up Ed Reed.
