Anyone been?

After lots of searching for the ideal honeymoon spot, I think we've landed on Costa Rica. It's amazing how affordable it is relative to our other choices; the accommodations that you can get for the money are pretty incredible. We're looking a handful of different places, mostly small boutique resorts on the Pacific and in the rainforest.

So...has anyone been? Any favorite spots? Travel tips?

We haven't booked anything yet but likely will at some point next week. The Huddle seems to have some well-traveled individuals, so figured I'd ask.

It's a fun place.

Don't go during our summer. That's their rainy season. I made that mistake. If you like rain, then by all means, go then, but if you don't, you might want to pick a different place. It won't rain all day, but it will rain every day during rainy season.

If you are just hanging out at the beach, fly into Liberia. The drive from San Jose not only sucks, but it is dangerous. The roads there are terrible and their people will pass around blind curves.

I recommend staying in the Manuel Antonio National Park region. It is beautiful and more developed than much of country. A lot of the beach towns are kinda dumpy. I was cool with that when I went, but I wasn't on my honeymoon. Manuel Antonio offers rainforest tours, fishing, great beaches, local dining options, and first class American style restaurants if you just want a nice dinner that doesn't have rice and beans.

If you fly out of Atlanta, you can probably save about half on your plane ticket.

It's already expensive down there.

It's cheaper than the states, but not by a lot these days. It is the most expensive place in Central America because of the huge influx of American and European ex-pats.

It's cheaper than the States, but I wouldn't go as far as to call it cheap. Some things down there (most consumer products) cost way more than they do here.
