Best Neighborhoods in/around Charlotte

ugh, that is like asking people where the best ice cream in the country is, buying a plane ticket, flying, renting a car, driving an hour, then walking up to the counter and ordering a small vanilla cone.

lololol yes.

Weddington is the blandest place I've ever been...and I spent 18 years there.

h0llywood, traffic from Weddington towards downtown will be pretty bad if you are working in or around downtown or southpark.

Traffic is never bad here outside of rush hour though.

I have a wife and three kids. Part of my excitement to move is that I can finally afford to buy myself my Mustang that I got rid of when I had my last child. Day care here in CA costs me $900 a month for a 1 year old.

I'd rather spend 300-400k on a house with 1+acres and a backyard where my kids can run around and be free than live in the city and get fined whenever my dog barks. My wife and I have a lot of optimism and hopes for Charlotte.

I'm gonna go ahead and play realtor...look up the following neighborhoods:

Montibello

Chadwyck

Park Crossing

Mountainbrook

Beverly Woods

None if those neighborhoods are anywhere near the area he is talking about. South Meck HS sucks. I have 2 friends in park crossing and one in Montibelli. Both had to put their kids in private school because they were so unhappy.

Most of the people in our neighborhood work downtown . Takes about 30-40 minutes each way.

I have no experience with those schools, but they were not happy.

Weddington is quite boring but is great for families with young kids who want great neighborhoods, great schools, lower property taxes, and likes feeling away from the hustle and bustle when they get home.

However, like many said.....it all depends on what you are looking for and what is important to you .

Don't get me wrong, that sounds nice...I think will always have a bias being closer to a city's center so was thinking about neighborhoods in his price range in south charlotte within 485 given he wants to be closer to stuff. The Weddington area is a nice spot for what you're talking about.

I just view Charlotte as a city filling in right now rather than a continuous expansion like Atl, DC, and Nashville have so if you're in a place a little ways out, in 5 years its going to be hell commuting and just getting around.

School wise, I grew up in Charlotte and went to Christian so I can't really judge the public schools haha....and I don't have kids yet so I really can't comment :)

Booty loop runner most days after 5:00 - throw sticks at everyone other than the guy in the obnoxious orange shoes and I will be forever grateful. Hold back on the attractive girls too.

Husker and myself live in the best part of the city bar none. Madison Park. Near everything and easy to get in and out of. Some schools are overrated and now schools on the outskirts are moving ahead. Why not get a solid house AND a place on either Lke Wylie or Norman? But for kids I would just go with neighbohood pool and solid school. My kids go to a greek charter and I know they are ahead of most. So we commute to the school but live so close to everything it works magically.

Sorry, If you have a family...Weddington, Marvin, Waxhaw offer a lot. Low property tax rates, great schools with small class sizes, access to gas stations, grocery stores, shopping, basically anything you need is close. Most importantly, you will find that the community feels comfortable, e.g. the southern hospitatlity you arae looking for. The commute into the city is not that bad. If you live out here you learn ways of getting around traffic and getting to the center of the city is 35/40 minutes max. Best of all, it is quiet and peaceful, no sirens, horns honking, etc...just a good life. My neighborhood is on the Marvin/ Waxhaw border, and it fits your price range, avergae house size is in the 3,500 to 4, 000 sq foot range. Ammenties include a great clubhouse, constant community evernts, shaded walking trails with a pond to sit around or fish in if you are into that type of thing, a large pool and great kiddie pool. Overall its a great community feel that offers diversity and everyone is extremely friendly. PM me and I will shoot you the name of my neighboorhood and other surrounding communities.

That part of town definitely is great.

Beautiful homes, walking distance to restaurants/bars and parks, and near the greenway.
