Best Neighborhoods in/around Charlotte

South End (proximity to Light Rail and Downtown) / Plaza Midwood, North Davidson (Lots of culture) / Sedgfield, Dilworth, Eastover (Have a lot of great bungalows) are all nice and around your price range. Rent to owns in the Myers Park area are actually pretty reasonable at the moment.

AFAIK, they have zoning for CMS.

And yeah, you will get a ton of southern hospitality in Charlotte.

Oh yeah, how are the property taxes, state taxes, gas prices there?

The Matthews-Weddington area you referred to is where I live. We are in Union County. The taxes are much less that Meck county and the schools are excellent.

My neighborhood is 300k-800k and feature 4,000 sf+ homes. It is an outstanding neighborhood for kids. We have a huge clubhouse with poker toon, piano bar, theatre, and fitness center. The pool is huge and includes a 30 foot tall (over 100ft long) waterside for the kids... Basketball courts...three tennis courts...swim team in the summer for the kids that have about 130 kids participating. Builder is John Weiland (excellent builder).

PM me if you want more info on this area.

Thanks guys. Are all the schools part of Charlotte school district or is it Macklenburg county district? Any good public schools for elementary or should I consider private?

Also do you guys have seasons there? We only have two seasons here in LA so I was hoping it snowed there in the winter with an actual spring.

Charlotte/Mecklenburg are combined. If you live in Dilworth, Elizabeth, Eastover, or Myers Park, your kids will have great schools at all levels. If you live NoDa/Plaza-Midwood in Charlotte, Elementary and Middle schools are fairly good, but the HS's aren't so good.

Schools in Ballantyne are good and those in North Charlotte near Lake Norman are fairly good as well.

Property taxes are combined city/county and combined are around 1.4%. They're laughably cheap here compared to other parts of the nation (but that doesn't keep some of the locals from complaining).

State income tax is tiered depending on income level, but they're not outrageous. I think 7.5% is the highest, but I could be wrong. I think I pay 7%.

Gas prices here are higher than most of the southeast because we have a higher gasoline tax, but it will still be a good bit cheaper than those in CA.
