I think I first began buying CDs to replace my Led Zep vinyl collection....

...believe it or not I still have a lot of albums packed away.

And those first CD players would kick your butt at nearly $1000 each

Hmmm, probably something from late '89 like Bon Jovi or Janet Jackson... My first CD player was in my car when I worked all summer washing cars to put a stereo system in it.

I remember local radio stations would hype up the songs..(ultra radio voice) and after the break bananrama in new compact disc sound.

The first CD I bought was on a whim, just out of pure curiosity. It was a black CD with a hand on the front. It was System of a Downs first CD. I have to say it was an amazing CD.

The first CD I can remember getting was a promo disc for a local band called Childrens Choir, they gave them out at their show at Tabloids on Central in 96 I think.

I probably had one before that but hell if I can remember what it was.

What's sad is that my son and daughter will probably never know what a CD was.
