Game Sunday Reminded Me Of

Look at where more good teams spend their money on the D side.

Pass Rush/DE

DT

CB

We need all of the above, and a good S. To go to the playoffs consistently, we have to win the division consistently. IMO that means getting to the QB's and being able to cover 2,3, and 4 WR sets. We also happen to play in a division with two great TE's although Gonzo may be on the way out.

I would go BPA at DT, CB, DE, or S. However those are not positions that Hurney has been very good at drafting.

Yes, SAFETY has long been a need.

The lines are always where the game starts and stops, but think about all of the year-in and year-out elite defenses and their safety play - Polamalu, Reed, etc.

We've ignored it long enough. I think CB is solid, but we need to start looking for another starter in another 2-3 years as Gamble's career will be winding down. Outside of that depth at CB is a must. But safety needs a legitimate starter and depth.

I like CB as well and still think that we can find an up grade to S in the next year. People are acting like Mark Barron is Ed Reed. I understand the frustration after Nakamularkey got beat something terrible. If we do not get one of the studs next year I will be livid. We needed Keuchly. I think Martin will be good depth, and a good special teams guy. The move has hampered his naturally ability by putting to much on him mentally. Nakamura is a joke.

i couldn't agree more. as soon as white caught that pass i thought of smitty catching delhomme's desperation heave and lifting the panthers to a victory. the saints were distraught - that awesome offense stymied by a rebuilding defense that still sucked.

they added a veteran safety the following year, radically increased their level of turnovers, and won a superbowl.

Some of the more talented safeties we've showcased in the past few years

Sherrod Martin

Charles Godfrey

Deke Cooper

Marquand Manuel

Jordan Pugh

Yea I'd say safety is a no. 1 need. Especially since it's essential for any accountable secondary

That list is horrible, and it just goes back to Marty Hurney again.

i remember a lot of people on this board including me laughing at them for picking up old man darren sharper that year. just having a smart veteran even if he isn't necessarily a freak athlete back there would make a world of difference for us right now.
