How well does a Ferrari drive while offroading?

Told you guys this team wasn't built to win in today's league. While pass rush has improved, the d line still can't fill the gaps against the run and the secondary is absolutely awful. Norman is only playing as well as a 5th round rookie possibly can, which is not nearly good enough, and really the only player we have in the back four that any competent team would be willing to start is Gamble. Godfrey is nowhere near worth the money he's earning, and Nakamura is god awful. Just god awful. Unbelievable with the need for better safeties how we whiffed on the chance to pick up Landry for only 4 million. The running game is bloated with too much talent and not enough opportunity for each to contribute and earn their pay. On a good rushing day our white elephant running backs barely eclipse double digits in rushing attempts. Meanwhile Michael Turner proves just like Andre Brown did ten days ago that less is more with more all purpose yards than "DOUBLETRUBBBLLEEZZ" or "TRIPLETHREATSZZ" or whatever the fug you running game fetishists are calling our backfield at this point.

4th season in a row starting 1-3 or worse. Not really a characteristic of a consistent winner. The losing spell continues until Hurney has an epiphany that causes him to re-evaluate his prioritization of where to invest in talent on this team, or is replaced with someone who already possesses that wisdom.

This has to be Hurney's last year. If not then we know Gantt was right that he has the job for life. And in that case, we just have to wait until new ownership arrives. I have a strong feeling we'll have to do the latter.

Me and Lineal were discussing in a thread earlier, which may be its own thread... But, you have to start wondering if JR is pulling strings on gameday at this point. Because no matter the coach, we seem to always tend to play it safe and the philosophy never changes that much between them.

His dedication to Hurney, his love of the Shield at the expense of the game, fans, etc... It's a viable question.

Just did a check and you'll be surprised to hear this but the Panthers are the only team to start the first quarter of the season 1-3 or worse for the last four years in the entire league. The Rams don't even have that distinction. Cleveland either.

If 1000 people can forward this as an email to Jerry Richardson and Marty Hurney, I wonder what they'd be thinking about how well whatever vision they have in their head of what the Panthers are supposed to be built to be is working...

You're right, but we always find ways to win 3-4 games in the last month of the regular season and keep hope alive for next year (except 2010)

So nobody gets fired/cut after the season ends because of that magical winning streak

    • I understand why people say things like it could be worse in relation to Tepper but it just doesn't jive for me. Are the optics bad? Yes. Would I want her to be the owner of my team? No. But I mean she's only been owner for a year and the Colts overall are a better run organization. As far as I know they've also never had the distinction of having the worst win percentage in all of professional sports either. Tepper has owned this team for 8 years and about the only thing that has been consistent has been the ability to continue to find different ways to achieve new lows. Even now people are saying things are different yada yada but we said these same things at certain points under Rhule Fitterer and Reich. I'm going to wait to see how the rubber meets the road this upcoming season before I make any strong conclusions about anything in relation to the longevity under this franchise going forward.
    • This is a toughie because I wonder what a guy like Canales thinks about redemption stories for addiction issues. Also, I think this is a case of 1 player getting caught, and not being naive enough to think this isn't more common in college than we think. I'd toss a 3rd rounder out there. 2026 is essentially a redshirt season regardless, so he's not taking over for any NFL QB next year. Best case, he's ready to go in 2027 if we pass on Bryce's extension. Worst case, he's our future backup QB2. Kid has the tools to be an NFL QB. I do think we could somehow land a '26 3rd round pick back in a trade. Our past years' third rounders are: Brazzell Princely Wallace DJ Johnson Matt Corral All this to say, I could see a team like the Jets going w/ a 2nd. They have three FRPs next year.
