Walking dead season 3

Love Walking Dead too.

For me it is something like this:

1. Dexter - unbelievable psychological/character depth/growth

2. Breaking Bad - Excellent show. Again very good character development.

3. Walking Dead - Awesome. Hard to believe anyone could pull off a zombie show so well. I was a fan of old zombie movies growing up, but did not follow the show immediately because I did not believe it was possible to pull this off in a high quality way. Eventually this show is going to catch up to the comics, sooner rather than later--I kinda hope the show is prepared to go on without the comic... but doubt that happens. I would love to see Carl 10 years or so in the future as a hardened badass from growing up in this world.

4. Game of Thrones - High quality production, but so many characters spread the depth quite thin (the opposite of Dexter). But it is just a different kind of show--it is a big picture show on a global scale with armies being moved around etc like a game of Risk. Also, sometimes I feel like this show tries to be over the top and offensive just to be offensive. I am sure this is from the books, but I am still quite let down by the death of Ned Stark. Also, I want bad things to happen to the worse characters, ala the child king, yet I am constantly let down by this as well. With this show the "good guys" never seem to win. I wish it were more balanced.

lol... be patient...

Nobody is safe... and this is something that kind of echoes with TWD that I enjoy... It is just more realistic when the good guys aren't untouchable, and anyone is prone to dying at any given moment...

the best part of this show and i don't know how intentional it is or not is the long term effects on a deep human level of something like this going down.

most movies on zombies/end of world stuff can only broach so much in 2 hours or so. TWD you get to see the long term psychological stuff. being the fan of specificity that i am, makes me dig this all the more.

Yep, The best shows on TV are usually character driven. I've been getting burnt out on the procedurals.

Absolutely. If you go back and watch the first season guys like Rick and Glenn are completely different people. More importantly, their character progressions make sense and aren't forced in any way. Darryl is pretty much the same though...I guess he was ready for the apocalypse from day 1.

daryl had already gone through all kinds of hell with merle and being lost in the woods for days as a child. among other things probably, mental, physical, emotional abuse.

  • 3 weeks later...

I haven't read this whole thread, (I'm only to episode 4 of Season 3 and was hoping to see some thoughts up to that point), but for christs sake can we leave the comics out of this? People are talking about what happens in the comics, and even though they are not sticking to the comics that much it seems...there could still be spoilers there.

And yes I realize I'm about 30 pages too late in posting this.
