Patriots sign Panthers draft bust Terrell McClain

The fact is that if the Panthers had expected McClain to progress at anything resembling an acceptable rate they would have kept him regardless of picking up Dwan. As it was however, they opted to drop a DT for a DT. The reality is that McClain's value to the team was less than any of the people who haven't received a jersey so far this year.

Andre Nebblett? Remember him? He has more upside than McClain. Unfortunately for McClain he was the odd man out in this decision.

You can't say that instantly upgrading the position does not justify the means at this point.

I don't see your point about Neblett. He's on a four game suspension.....and is mysteriously ill. They found a way to keep him around through cuts, because of his stated upside. Whether he sticks around after his suspension, well we'll see. You're just proving my point though - if the Panthers value you they will keep you.

The only reason he was cut is because of Dwan Edwards, that is leagues ahead of McClain. Essentially an Upgrade at the position. How does that make him a bust?

A bust to me is a person that is highly regarded and highly graded that goes early in the rounds of the draft that does not produce in 2-3 years of his employment, he doesn't live up to the standards so to speak.

MaCclain, after one year is not a bust. He was let go for a better product. Dwan has 3.5 sacks and I think 9-10 tackles so far this season. I doubt McClain would produce these numbers this year so far.

He's still young so he can develop. The brass just took a chance on Edwards and it's paying off. The only thing that I do not like is that a 3rd rounder was, for a lack of a better term, wasted on him. That third could have been used for a Safety or Pass Rushing DE that year.

He may not be a bust by your standards, but he was a bad pick. Would Jimmy Clausen be excused from this talk because we only used him for one year before replacing him with a superior player? The fact that the FO was so eager to get rid of him so quickly after his rookie year tells me that they felt that he wouldn't ever develop as good as big name DT Dwan Edwards is THIS YEAR (who has been a good player this year no doubt).

Nebbles must be eating Rivera's pebbles

Because we didn't want McClain, he's a bust.

Huddle displaying its brilliant logic once again.

He's definitely a bust as a Carolina Panther.

He's still young enough to turn his career around, but you simply can't cut a 3rd round pick in his second year and NOT consider him a bust.

because he was cut after one year? whats your definition of 'bust'?

Dude I don't really say this people unless it is needed. But your a moron. Mcclain never got any good coaching here. Like someone just said. He needs the right coaching and he could become a pro bowler in the next few years. With a guy like Vince Wilfork there to teach him and the coaches as well. You never know what will happen. He has been in the league one year. Give him a chance.

What

Why would I give him a chance when he's on the Patriots? Why did the Panthers keep Fua but not Mcclain? Both have been pretty bad but maybe the panthers liked Fuas work ethic over Mcclain? There has to be a reason why the panthers gave up on him before fuging year two.

He is, by all intents and purposes, a failed pick by the Panthers. There is no other way around this.

Also, not every NE Patriot is a pro bowler.
