you guys do realize the sporting news list is a projection for 2009 right?

the footballoutsiders list is for top RBs from last season.

i don't agree with williams being as low as he is, but seeing as how either williams or stewart can carry the team should either one of them go down, i can understand why he isn't as high as some of you would like.

just about every RB listed above him is the main and sometimes even the only legitimate ball carrier on their respective teams.

That makes some sense. I'm kind of surprised to see that Marion Barber isn't anywhere on the list.

^^^^^^^^^^^^

williams is better than any one of them...

i might hold off on saying he's better than portis and LT2...just for now, though. as far as the others on the part of the list that you showed....yeah, williams is better. stewart could make a good case against many of them as well.

i like him more than s-jax as well but only because i jackson has some serious durability issues.

That really shouldn't make any difference. First of all it shouldn't be about total yards but things like yards per carry, TDs, fumbles, and similar stats. So the fact that he shares the load shouldn't be the determining factor if these talking heads know what they are talking about. Secondly even sharing the load he got 1500 yards and willl likely do the same this year as well. He is arguably the best back in the league and surely top five. I expect with the way he came on last year, he will likely get off to a quicker start this year and should get 1500 yards even with Stewart sharing the load. He has also proven to be durable and fumble free which again plays in his favor.

he's only arguably the best back in the league on the huddle.

to everyone else, he's a part of double trouble...smash and dash...corned beef and hash...or whatever they're being called now.

the media rarely seperates williams and stewart.

and should they? individually they set franchise records. together they set franchise and nfl records. before stewart was drafted and the o-line revamped, what did williams do other than outplay foster?

i'm not trying to downplay williams's success, but until williams is successful without stewart or stewart successful without williams, the media will only view them as carolina's backfield...and will always be overlooked for their individual successes and potential.

Don't know who you listen to but several of the guys I respect on NFL Sirius like Pat Kirwin and Gil Brandt rate him as the first or second best runner in the league behind Peterson.

And while I would agree that they do see the two of them as a very good duo, most of the talk I hear was about Williams. Almost everyone agrees he was the best back in football in the second half of the season. Don't agree that Stewart is holding him back or limiting his exposure.

Maybe I'm too much of a homer but I think Williams is just as good as Adrian Peterson. Williams gets more TDs and would get as many yards or more, if he got the same amount of carries. Best of all, Williams knows how to protect the ball and Adrian Peterson doesn't. That's what really evens out the comparison.

Come on now, we didn't have a very good run-blocking O-line in Williams' first two years. Plus, it's simply not true that Williams didn't distinguish himself before '08. He had 700+ yards in '07. That's actually an impressive total when you consider that he was the back up, our run blocking wasn't good, and we had no passing game to take the pressure off of the running game.

Peterson had 9 fumbles last season.....D-Will had 0.

Thats really all that needs to be said.

i really dont think ap is all that good and this is why.didnt he fumble 4 times in 1 game.maybe it was against the falcons or bucs.enough said DWILL= 1 RB in NFL.

I dont know-- Um led the league in runs over 20 yards, broke the single rush record, carried the team on his back against atl in 06, and more.

Its not his fault John Fox is blindly loyal

and i think those 2 had their coming out party last season. I am sure we will have no problem hearing more about them.
