If Rivera is worth his salt...

Then he walks into practice and tells everybody, right off the bat, "nobody's job is safe. Don't want to lose your job? Earn it. Are you a backup and want to play? Here's your shot. Earn it."

All these threads about "start Martin", or "move Kuechly to Mike", etc. may have some validity. Make them earn it. Sure, Beason is a defensive leader, a captain...but the fact is, he couldn't tackle a no-name RB in the open field. This is the same guy who didn't miss on guys like Adrian Peterson or Forte. Maybe it's due to not being able to go much of camp and all of preseason, maybe he just lost a step, who knows? He doesn't look like the same old Beason. I was almost ashamed to be wearing his jersey yesterday.

Competition breeds results. Nobody's (and this includes EVERYBODY on the roster) job should be safe. Period.

Now, with that...coaches....coach. Please. Gameplan. Watch film. Look like you have the slightest clue as to what you are doing (this includes you Rivera, and you McDermott. Mr. Stoic and Mr. Prevent).

As much as we KNOW this is what should happen, it won't.

Rivera fits the mold JR and Hurney are looking for. A hood ornament of sorts. A guy who rarely emotes or acts with or expresses emotion. Emotion isn't a bad thing despite what many here espouse, it's a matter of how it's expressed.

They hire the guys with the background that they do because it's "safe."

Rivera even said something last night about he didn't think this was a time for "jobs to switch hands."

It's all wishful thinking. May as well prepare ourselves for another "we'll do better next week" game come next Sunday.

6:18 of that video, he's asked if this loss is the kind that will result in job's switching hands.

Rivera says "no, I don't think so... Not the time to hit the panic button 3 games into the season."

So, that's not happening.

He can say that all he wants, but he needs to lead by example and show fire and the desire to be good now, not a "we will get them next time approach". We can put the blame on other guys all we want, but it all starts at the top.

I like Rivera and he seems like a good guy, but the red flag was how many interviews he went on before he got a head coaching job. I have no doubt he is passionate about the game, but he needs to show it to his team because they are as lax and flat as he is right now.

I really want to know how much say is going into the defense too. I was excited when we brought McDermott in because I had visions of a Jim Johnson pressure defense but it's clear the Rivera and McDermott combine for just the opposite. We don't have a dline capable of just rushing 4 every time.
