Seems to be selling broken for 20-60$ depending on the condition and what it comes with.

Repair costs vary depending on the problem.

If you get it fixed then sell it you should make 100-200 for a backwards compatible used 80gb fat PS3:

My 60GB original got the YLOD 2 years ago and it's been doing nothing but sitting in the box since then while I went with the new slim line.

I sent it away to gophermods to be repaired but they were unable to fix it and quoted me that RSX chip had likely broke due to the initial heat.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you, especially since my 60GB seems valuable in working condition, but I've never used ebay before and a bit unsure on it. Had a guy offer my $20 on craiglist but that didnt really seem worth it at the time.

yeah. i had a guy quote me $125 in town. but if i do that, then try and sale it, i risk getting less than $200 for it. that is compared to selling it broken on eBay for ~$50. i think i'll just do that. if it doesn't sale, then i'll prob. get it fixed, and then try and sale it as a fixed backwards compatible.

ebay really isn't that difficult, either. setting up an account with a basic listing is pretty easy.

Well if you do go the ebay route, keep me updated cause that may be the route I have to take as well. Good luck, I know it sucks having something like that sit there and selling it cheap.

I have heard good things about gophermods if you are interested in that route for about $70. They couldn't fix mine due to the RSX chip cracking, but theres a chance yours didnt.

went up to game stop, and the guys there said my original, piano black, 80 gig ps3 was 'ylod.' i bought a new one for $250, but now i have this old one.

anyone think i could sale it? as is? should i get it fixed first?

99.00 for sony to fix and they cover shipping both ways. then ebay it or put in another bedroom for netflix box.

I did the 99.00 Sony route with my 60 gb original PS3. I've had it since first month PS3 was for sale. YLOD once. Of course now that I said that, it probably won't turn on when I go home.

Sounds like mine, so if you don't mind, how long has it been since the system was fixed?

I had heard mixed reviews to the Sony repair since it doesn't neccesarily fix the overall issue, just replaces the protective layer again. I also heard of cases where people didn't get their system back, but another one that had already been repaired that wasn't even the same model. Don't know how true that is or if they would even fix mine since the chip is apparently cracked.

I want to say it's been 3 years since it was repaired. They told me they would either repair mine or replace it with the same model. I told them I definitely had to have the same model if it was replaced since I still play some of my PS2 games.
