The Panther Offense: A Double-Edge Sword

A read option is a run play. What makes you think he is reading for a pass on a run play? The receivers aren't running routes, they are blocking. When he fakes an option run and pulls it back for a pass, then the play was a pass all the way. He's not trying to read between two different responsibilities on the same play.

That's an even bigger problem then. To fake the option, when his receivers are running down the field. By the time the receivers are open, Cam will have pass rushers in his face. It's one thing to play action, which takes half a second to do. Yet to fake a read option, a long drawn out fake, is the dumbest play in the history of football. It's no wonder for Cam to get sacked in that instance.

I said before that letting shockey go was stupid. One of the reasons the offense was so good was because of the 2TE sets. The worse thing you can do to a young QB is to take one of his weapons away and not replace him. Why would they let Shockey go but not get another pass catching TE. I said it before and I will say it again the panthers will waste this young mans talent.

We run too many plays that are slow developing, even when our O-line is struggling with pass rush. Not every throw has to be 15 yards +.

Other than the occasional screen, we aren't doing enough in the quick-hitting short passing game to slow down the rush.

And no, I don't believe Stew would have made any appreciable difference tonight. Once the D put us in a hole, the Giants could just rely on their nice front 4, and sit back waiting for the inevitable mistake.

Ok, let's pretend that your theory is correct. That with JStew this is THE offense but without him, it aint. Why the hell would you build an offense so reliant on one player? And a player that plays in an oft injured position?

Just doesnt make sense.

I'm not against using the the read option... I'm just against using it so much.

Surely there has to be other things we can do well.

Stewart is simply required for Chud to run his college scheme.....Chud doesn't HAVE to run it. He shouldn't be running the Stewart offense without Stewart. Dumb.
