The Panther Offense: A Double-Edge Sword

I don't know how many times we will have to get slammed, before this coaching staff realize this college offense doesn't work against defenses worth half their salt. The truth of the matter is, it works sometimes, but more often than not, it doesn't. I mean, this coaching staff almost make me wish Derek Anderson was the starter, because then I know for sure I will not see another option play. This offense got me loathing that play at this point. I'm ready to see both Rivera and Chud go because of this play. I ain't going to lie, after watching tonight, they got me crying thinking on the John Fox era.

Bottom line, this offense is holding Cam's development back. Cam is still trusting in his own ability to move the ball, just like he did at Auburn. Cam will never grow into a Manning/Brees/Brady type QB, able to masterfully call the offense. The sad part is, Chud won't change a thing. He will still have Cam run 30 options a game.

I dont want to ever hear Chud called an offensive genius again. He comes in the a game plan and he sticks to it, he needs to learn to change on the fly. If the Option isnt working why not go back to the Power I and play normal football and not bang your head against the wall with another Option for loss.

The read option isn't used in the NFL b/c the average reaction time for players is so much faster. It's a glorified gimmick play set.

We've been The Golden Calf of Bristol'd.

Read option isn't used much bc few QBs can run it.....it is highly effective with the right pieces. Works like a charm every week except the 2 Stewart has been out.

All RBs can't be inserted heavily into that type scheme. Doesn't work as well with Williams.....and to work it has to be flawless. Reads are slower with Williams and more often are geared to him running horizontally.

Read option is fine.....issue is Chud wants to run it without Stewart setting it up and getting it rolling effectively first

Then go f u c k yourself and buy a Matt Ryan jersey.

This offense is the only thing making Cam, Cam. Yeah we could play call like the Lions. Cam has the arm strength and the pocket presence to do it. If we did that though, he would be 24/43 280 yards 2 TD, 2 INT consistently. The option makes our offense better and Cam a better, more efficient and more effective passer. Yeah, we used it too much, and in the wrong places during this game. That is no reason to lose faith in your QB, and the entire offensive scheme.

Cam Newton is the best thing to ever happen to the Carolina Panthers. I'll tell you right now that I will flame any diarrhea-mouthed pussy fine young male who says anything negative about him. That or I'm just drunk and upset after an embarrassing loss.

It's a complete bush league gimmick.

People ragged on the wildcat, this is WAY worse.

We deserve to be the laughing stock for running this little piece of crap offense.

It isn't a gimmick. Wildcat is a gimmick. Better athletes play QB now....which is why the read option is all over college football now. It is a core concept in college and now is transitioning to the next level. Wildcat never was.....always was a gimmick on every level

TBH it take two really talented players to do it and we didnt have one of those players tonight. Not Cams or Stewarts fault because our OC should have seen that to start with.

I think this is where we fool ourselves. The only player that should have a big impact on our offense when he's not there, is the QB. The strength of this offense is really determined on Stewart? I'm confident that even if Stewart was in the game tonight, we still would have gotten shut down. The fact that the one game the option worked is when Stewart was playing means nothing. We were playing against the terrible Saints defense, who gave up 40 points to a rookie QB. Last year we dominated a Bucs team that went 4-12 for the year and had a coach who is now out of the league, correct me if I'm wrong. I fear as long as we run this offense, there is no way we will accomplish anything.

Stewart, or the lack there of, is not the issue.

It's a slow developing offensive attack that will always suffer against defensive ends of average NFL stature.

Tonight is just more proof.

I guess we can revisit this in 5 years and see how many read option offenses have or have not won the super bowl.

My guess is it will be zero.

Certainly haven't been any recently. Nothing that resembles it in fact.
