Bobcats broaden television base to 2.8 million homes

Nearly 1 million more television households in the Carolinas will have access to Charlotte Bobcats broadcasts this season.

Jeff Genthner, who heads SportSouth, the regional Fox sports network that televises Bobcats games, told the Observer Tuesday that potential viewers will increase to over 2.8 million households, up from 1.87 million last season.

Some Bobcats fans – as nearby as Rock Hill or Lake Norman – didn’t always have television access to the games. SportSouth expects television providers to pay a surcharge to carry Bobcats games, and some refuse to do so.

“We’re almost now at the point where anyone who lives in North or South Carolina will have access to Bobcats games through some (television) provider – cable, satellite or telephone. At least one,” Genthner said. “Now any holes only exist to the extent of someone’s willingness or unwillingness to change service providers.”

hopefully that will work out for some of you guys that don't have access to the games on television

I have charter ad clearly since time warner has rights on it I've never actually got to see them play on tv. Watch the games in my phone and live but that gets old and expensive for both. I wonder if this changes and will allow me to watch them now. I woukd always see that they were playing on sportsouth but when i turned it to that channel it was like some 1980 college football poo

  • 1 month later...

Went ahead on my schedule on DirecTV and still no change. All games still shown on Sportsouth, which isn't available in my area. I'm waiting to see if our games are shown by the other team's broadcast channel these first two games during my NBA League Pass free preview... If they do show them, and not black them out like they always have, I'll be buying the league pass. If it's blacked out as usual regardless, welp, I'm relegated to looking up crappy streams again.

I kinda have the same problem. I have charter. And I guess since the stadium is time Warner arena then I guess that's why they don't allow charter to televise this. I'm hoping this has changed this year tho. That's the problem with this team. They cut out over half the audience some people wanna watch them but can't. En if we are local. This has to change I try want more fans. U can't knock out half the fan base just Bc time Warner

Yeah man, I'm really hoping there has been some change... At least to where I can see it from the other team's broadcast on league pass. I've been in the RDU area for the last 7 years and the only time I got to see our games were in the horrible News 14 days. Then I went to DTV and they've never shown them in our area... I even had Sportsouth for a few years and they would black it out when the game started. You would think they would want to bring in the next biggest populated area in NC outside of Charlotte.

Well this fuggin sucks. I just put it on my sportssouth channel and what do ya know. No bobcats pre game. Another year without being able to watch them regularly. This is this teams problem. For the people who wanna watch and support them we can't.

I got the same thing. The guide says it should be Bobcats, but it is some Ole Miss game review. The game better be on at 7

Good news and bad news. I didn't get the game in HD at all, neither from Indy's feed or ours and I checked in my free league pass preview... Started to get depressed because I knew I didn't get Sportsouth at all here and the HD versions were blacked out per usual. Well, checked out the Sportsouth+ channels and guess what? I was able to get the game on Sportsouth+ Alternate (ch. 650 on Directv). It isn't in HD, but I'll take it. I'm so happy to be able to see our games on TV... Hopefully I'm able to keep seeing them on this channel because I would assume it's not related to the league pass free preview, so it should be available on that channel regularly. I really hope I'm able to keep seeing them on here, that was so awesome!

UPDATE: Again, still hoping it being available wasn't related to the league pass free preview but as I said, I saw the entire game but it cut off abruptly in the middle of the post game press conference and gave me the "not subscribed" message.

As long as I can see the games, I'll deal with not being able to see the pressers.
