Coach Rivera on Jim Rome Show in 10 minutes

Interview is over now. It was fairly brief.

Talked about how being able to run the football was huge for us. Really likes the phrase "impose our will" and that's what he told to Panthers to do before taking the field on Sunday.

I didn't catch the whole thing but towards the end Rome asked Rivera about Greg Schiano's call on the last play against the Bucs. Ron said that back when he played it was understood that the team would take the knee and not hurt one another and just move on to the next week. He proceeded to say if thats the way Schiano wants to coach his players...that the Panthers and their staff will be prepared for it. He also added that he would not coach that way.

Rome said just the way Ron spoke got him fired up; especially for Thursday night. Said Carolina has been on the big stage before but not lately and that Thursday is a great opportunity for a young franchise to go out onto the national stage in front of the nation and their peers to show who they are and how far they have come in just a couple seasons. Rivera said something along the lines of "this is a new football team/we aren't the Panthers of a year or two ago."

Jim Rome is a Steve Smith fan but I missed the majority of the segment on 89.

The more I remember...the more Ill add to my post.

in regards to the schiano kneel down situation from yestrday he pretty much said the games not over till the clock hits 0:00 but he would never do that and his o-lineman will be ready for it at all times. talked about how everyone is excited for thursday and how smitty apporached him during the lockout. says no one is like steve smith and says he makes the team better by the way that he practices

I think I came in late, but the gist of the interview:

-Time for the Panthers to build upon a solid win against the Saints. Rome brought up Newton's comment that the team feels they have taken a step up.. Rivera says it's time to get past the thinking this is the "same 'ole Panthers"...

- Rome says he's a huge fan of Smitty.. asks Ron what it's like to coach him and why the team respects him so much.. It's due to the way he practices, prepares, and plays the game.. He goes 100mph even in practice, and always goes for the tough catch whether that's speeding up or slowing down to make the catch.. Guys respect that.. He's never coached anyone like him and says there are definitely not enough guys in the league like him..

- Says He knows what to expect from the Bucs in the victory formation. Will never pull that move and will show the opponent respect, and will be prepared in all situations.. Guys will line up ready to go, QB will drop back to a knee quick, hand the ball off.. but OL will be ready.

Keep in mind I am paraphrasing so do NOT take this word for word.... ;)
