Panthers cornerback Captain Munnerlyn is usually a happy-go-lucky guy. But the fourth-year player is not pleased about losing his starting job to rookie Josh Norman.

Munnerlyn, who has 23 career starts, has been relegated mostly to the nickel package and special teams with the emergence of Norman, a fifth-round pick from Coastal Carolina.

“It’s hard to say I’m good with it. But it’s a part of football,” Munnerlyn said Monday. “I know they need me on special teams. We don’t have a gunner that can run down the field and go out there and make a lot of plays. I’m rotating at corner, which I really don’t like. But I’ve got to do it.”

Ok he may not like losing that spot but there is a simple way to get it back. Do better when he gets his chance.

Sounds like he's disgruntled and he's not even that good at nickel. Might be time to move on after the season.

The thing that stuck out to me was "We don't have a gunner that can run down the field and go out there and make a lot of plays." First of all, you don't tell the media something like that. That's being selfish and not a team player. And second, we do. Colin Jones comes to mind.

He better tread carefully with his words. I appreciate the attitude that he is not content with not starting, but you keep that internal and bust your a** to retake your job. You don't go public with that type of thing and turn this issue into something that festers in the lockerroom.

He is a guy that would be easy to replace.

Game ball: Wideout Steve Smith gave a game ball to linebacker Kenny Onatolu, who missed practice last week and was inactive for the Saints game after the death of his mother. Onatolu said he was overwhelmed by the support of his new team.

Besides Smith’s gesture, the Panthers sent flowers and defensive coaches texted Onatolu throughout the week.

“I didn’t expect all that,” said Onatolu, signed as a free agent during the offseason. “I’m not a star player. I’m one of those special teams guys, and they showed me a lot of love.”

Where's that ass clown that was saying he doesn't think our team is likable? This is one of the classiest teams in the league.

It's not like he called a press conference to complain. They asked him what he thought of the situation and he said he was upset, which shouldn't be much of a surprise. He didn't say he lost faith in the staff or even that they made the wrong decision. The man wants to be the starter, and he's made it clear on several occasions before. I don't see why this would negatively impact anything considering the players in the locker room already figured he wouldn't be okay with losing his job. Feel free to blow this out of proportion though, Huddle.

i'm glad he doesn't like it. he needs to prove it on the field and that just isn't something he's done.

he's good in the nickel and to an extent he should relish that role, but if he wants more playtime and more respect he's just going to have to play better.

He's also going to have to grow and inch or two. The guy is talented and has all the heart in the world, but it's kind of hard to showcase his abilities when he's as small as Mugsy Bogues, and he's trying to guard Shaq. It's just not gonna work out. Wide receivers in this league are just too big and strong for him too keep up with. The slot is where he belongs.

The problem is, whether asked or not, he needs to show it on the field instead of talkin about it in an interview... he can hate it all he wants but until he plays up to #2 standards he just sounds like a spoiled kid who got a spot because he was the best sorry player to get the nod.

He certainly is oblivious to how bad he was last year, and doesn't realize 5th round rookies don't just take over starting roles from 4 year vets.

That is captians chip on his shoulder..he is a fighter who is scrappy. He didnt say the coaches are terrible and he is disgruntled..he is a fighter and has to have a starters mentality or he would never even would have been a starter in the SEC.

Rivera has created, with a full offseason, a team full of players who fight for their jobs and make plays count.

Even Deangelo started to fight in week 2 where he usually takes 4 games to get into it(love him to death but I think Deangelo has a general passive happy go luck personality where he eases into the season..the last few seasons)

It took Vinny Testerverde to get him to work hard in the offseason and work on his conditioning..no one in 2010 or the lock out season(Clausen?!Fox?!)

Makes me like him even less. Sounds like he'd rather be starting on a terrible defense than playing just about the same number of snaps for a much improved defense. Sorry this isn't 2010-2011, Captain.

I don't get it. If I were in his shoes, I think I'd rather be a good #3 corner than an abysmal #2. It's not like he is ever going to get #2 money anyway.
