No one is perfect at their job, marriage, or life in general, however Hurney has displayed over the course of 10 years that he is below average at his job.

If I were below average at my job I would not have it for too long. No reason to keep below average workers on any work force.

If AJ Smith is fired next season from SD we should bring him in asap, we won't though, because he is a pretty harsh guy....great football mind, but harsh.

I agree. SD has had a great roster the past few years.....could argue one of the best in the NFL

Simple....he earned the #1 overall pick.....and to a large degree we were a one man team sitting back and watching that one man.

If Marty had a solid roster build we might of done something. But Marty didn't.

And we aren't contenders yet....

Picking Cam wasn't rocket science....

Most good gm's have a first round QB.

Polian had Peyton

Reese inherited Eli

Thompson/Rodgers....the list goes on and on.

I did not say were contenders yet, but I was just stating that a terrible gm could not take a 2-14 team to being contenders. He also did it in year 2 after taking over a 1-15 team.

If he's not a good gm, then how would he possibly fix a 2-14 team and turn them into a contender in 2 years?

So if he sucks, its impossible that we have a contender and you should go on record with that now. Otherwise admit its possible your wrong.

I'll make the first move, if we suck again this year then I am wrong. If the team is as good as I think it is then I am right.

It's more about Cam than it is the rest of the choices he and Rivera have made. If we had Tannehill, Weeden, Andy Dalton, or heck... Clausen as our QB we would not be in the spot we are now. ANY GM would've taken Cam. He had to. Without Cam, this team is average at best. That is how you grade Hurney. With Cam, we can contend. If CAM takes us to the Playoffs, he saves Hurney's butt. He should be kissing Cam's ass every chance he gets.

6 out of the 9 teams who have kept their GM's since 2002 have a better winning percentage and finishing 49% means the team misses the playoffs every year or wins a couple seasons and tanks the others.....Hurney should have been fired when the team was purged and it's that simple. It's really that simple.

Do none of you listen at all?

Hurney picks the players the coaches want. His draft record has been reset under Rivera, because it belongs to the entire front office, not just the GM.

So Hurney gets a life time pass? lol

Even if this were true, I bet it's more like the coach tells Hurney what type of player he wants and Hurney picks the player that fits under our cap and his philosophy (where the philosophy is hurting the team). Which is a team full of draft picks and other team cast offs hoping they fill our holes while intentionally avoiding big names that could really help the team.

3 out of 10

Great post and id give more pie if I could with all the Garbage on the Huddle in the last two weeks...even too unreadable for myself!! Thats Bad!

Exactly how I feel about Hurney..I think he is good..not great.. But has a two year window to make sure no major FA losses and to set the team up for the next five years.

For those saying 3 of 10.

What was different about the 03 roster that went to the Super Bowl and 04 roster that wen 7-9? The only starters to leave were Deon Grant, Reggie Howard and Terry cousins.

They were replaced by Gamble(drafted with our late 1st),moving ricky manning jr. into starting lineup and Colin Branch took Deon Grant;s place. Grant had 3 picks in 03, Branch had 3 picks in 03.

We also added Brandon Short in free agency as lb depth which.

Then of course we got Wharton that year in the draft as well to improve our- 0-line.

So we improved our Super Bowl roster and then went 7-9..how the fug is that Hurneys fault??

Then in 05 we continued to improve our o-line by signing Whale and upgraded the secondary with Lucas and moved manning back into slot. We did however loose Moose to the bears that year, but evidently he did not hurt as we had a winning season without him going 11-5

we also drafted Davis this year

06 we drop to 8-8

our losses that year were Witherspoon, Mcree, ricky manning jr. and Stephen Davis went to the rams where he did jack poo and retired the following year.

we signed keyshawn that year to replace moose who departed after the 04 season.

signed Kemo and damione Lewis

We added deangelo williams to replace Stephen Davis

drafted richard marshall to replace ricky manning jr.

Also added james anderson in the draft too.

then in 07 back down to 7-9

only significant loss was keyshwan who was cut before the season.

We did however add Charles Johnson,Beason, and Kalil thru the draft this year.It failed but we also drafted Jarrett to replace Keyshawn

Then in 08 we rise back to 12-4 after Hurney mortgaged the future to try to get us a consistent winner under fox.

added stewart

traded up for otah

godfrey

schwartz

bernadeau.

we also added brayton and keydrick vincent in free agency and brought moose back

also traded the disgruntled jenkins this year for a 3rd and 5th round pick

Now in 09 there was no major losses at all. But yet we fall back to 7-9. hmmm, are you noticing the trend that maybe just maybe its the coach by now?

Anyway 2010 peppers finally got his wish and got away from Fox and J.R. said fug everyone and we go 2-14 under Fox's lame duck year.

last year the first year under Rivera we bounce back to 6-10 after losing some close ones. Now here we are with a dangerous roster again and waiting to see what happens.

Short version

-02 rebuilding begins and we go 7-9, up from 1-15

03 11-5 and superbowl appearance

04 roster is upgraded then we go to 7-9---isn't this why everyone hated foxball

05 more roster upgrades 11-5 and NFC championship

06- roster is transitioned from stephen davis to deangelo and spoon left replaced him with diggs and drafted anderson and go 8-8

07-we have monster draft and part ways with keyshwan..then fall to 7-9 again.

08-hurney goes crazy in draft and trades future, adds depth and we go 12-4

09-franchise peppers and give Delhomme contract extension- and didn't lose anyone worth a poo go 8-8

10- Jerry richard takes over and preps for lockout and we go 2-14 and keeps a lame duck coach

11- 6-10 but damn if things were not exciting again. and now in 2012 we are down to just 2 shittty players leftover from 2010 roster and have a damn good team on paper and both are buried on depth chart(Clausen and Edwards)

so in summary since taking over we have lost less than 8 games five times, 2 of which were under first year head coaches and 1 was the 2010 prep for lockout year. The other 2 would be easy to blame Fox cuz I am not a fan but injuries did help his cause. The 8-8 years were what you get out of Foxball.

Hurney has provided Fox with a good roster every year he was allowed to(2010 was fugged by Jerry)..Looking at the winning seasons nothing drastic happened to make him go backwards but Hurney did do things to help him every year.
