Is Cam Newton For Real?

Great read: http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Is-Cam-Newton-for-Real.html

I can hear the murmurings of the spiteful chorus behind me.

The Panthers lost their first game. And the mighty Cam Newton struck out. He got nothing. Just 4 yards rushing. Sure, he threw for 300 yards, but he had two picks and they lost. You know what that means, don’t you? It means that last year was a fluke, a complete aberration! We knew the truth had to come out because all of those people—bitter bloggers, fans of bitter bloggers, investigative reporters who broke the news that Newton was the first player in the history of organized sports to receive illegal payments, the scout who questioned his “fake smile”—just had to be right. That’s what matters most—being right. I told you Can Newton wouldn’t be any good. And he isn’t. I was right! He cheated in college. Yeah, that’s why I don’t like him. He got money to play. I said it all along, he’s a bad guy. Yep, and a bad quarterback. He proved it in that first game. I was right! I was right. By God I was right!

Except they’re not right. Cam Newton is a fine quarterback. He had a bad game. But this makes him a bad player. These are the rules, I’m told. And the rules dictate that for today’s episode, all the glowing things I said about Cam Newton in my earlier story should be retracted. For the record, nothing I said about Cam Newton was “glowing,” it was just truthful. There will be no retractions.

I guess he has to throw 400+, rush 40, throw no Jake Delhommes, and keep his haircut low to be considered elite....smh

I actually don't really think he had a bad game...the team did and I don't mean that in a J Fox way. We had issues all the way around some areas more than others. At the end of the we can always be better and I believe we will be on Sunday. We are looking at them the same way the bucks looked at us which is, "we remember what you did to us last game! revenge is ours!" I actually think RR wants this victory more than last Sunday based on his Presser in reference to "if that's how they run their team" statements. I just want more emotion from him. Sometimes a pissed coach lights the necessary fire for the team. J Fox and that carebear approach is over!

not a really well written article, but i loved the thought. 100% agreed. people have it out for him to fail. they have all along and they'd like nothing better than to see it happen.

newton is going to be one of the all time greats and he's taking the panthers with him.

Good article except the part about him having a bad game. The more I watch the game the more apparent it is how well he played. He made one really bad throw to Smith. You throw the ball 33 times and chances are one of them will be bad. As for the one to LaFell that got picked, the exact same play picked up 20 yards in the 1st half when Tampa's coverage was even tighter.

The only thing he didn't do is use his legs much, but those opportunities will come.

We lost the game because we had a game plan that didn't work. Not because Cam played poorly.
