Ha, I will try to make it to a CAAC meeting soon and will mention it to him. His setup was astonishing, though. I think it was a Max with an additional 15k in modification - on top of his sun filter. I was floored.

Really cool an Amateur Astronomer got the footage, and on an LX200 12"! Must have been a massive collision.

Anyone else an AA? I have a Meade LX800 that I used to run lapses on Saturn and The Orion Nebula through my laptop on crystal clear winter nights. Light pollution from downtown has made that less exciting, but I will go up to the mountains once every couple months and do that now.

Id love to have somethin like an lx800.

Nice! I have a buddy with an Astrocam up near Chapel Hill that I love to look through when I am up there. My 800 isn't very well suited for deep space since I can't get a very wide field of view (even modded), so I get a treat when I get to visit.

My scoping laptop is actually dead atm - had to order a new battery - but I will definitely post what I have grabbed since I have started imaging. And subsequent images as I get out there.

I had a fantastic capture of the Pleiades for my desktop wallpaper for a while that I would have posted but can't find it atm =/

Yea, the wide field and 30 sec setup definitely has its advantages. goIng camping in a couple weeks... Cant wait to get away from the light.

jesus christ! here's a quick side-by-side of earth and the impact zone of the collision. the impact alone covers about what looks like ~10% of earth's surface. that's ~ 19.6 thousand miles.
